Well finally we Xbox 360 owners have a new game to play. I picked up this game yesterday having never played a fight night game before. I did play the demo that was released but that was about as basic as it got. So having played this game for about 5 hours yesterday online and offline I wanted to come here and give a review for this game and hopefully help some out that are unsure if they should buy this game or not.

    Gameplay:

The last boxing game I played was Knockout Kings 2001, so I was used to hitting buttons to throw punches. Well they have something called total punch control in which you move the right analog stick to create your punches. Now I tried to figure some of this out in the demo but that did not do much good. So I spent a little time trying to get this new system down and while it does take a lot of practice after using it a little while I started to like it. I still am not very good but I am improving every time I fight. A great part of the gameplay is the removal of a HUD system. Basically you have to look and pay attention to your fighter to determine how damaged you are and when you might get knocked out. This is done is an amazing way on this game. You can see your fighter start to wear down from cuts to swelling and especially when they start to get tired. You will begin to become short of breath and look extremely exhausted. Your punches will become much slower and not nearly as effective. A big thing to me was the impact of the punches. You can really tell the diffrence between a power shot and just a regular shot. When you hit your opponent with a big shot you can almost feel it yourself. Overall I really like the gameplay and am having fun still learning it.

    Graphics:

This game is simply the most amazing thing I have ever seen from a console. No game not even Call of Duty 2 can touch it. In the cutman mini game the detail of your fighters face is amazing. I play on a HD tv in 1080i and let me just say again that I almost can't believe these graphics.

    CAB:

Now this is just freaky in the options it gives you. You can change everything about your boxers appearance from the shape and placement of their eyes, to how big their ears are, and the bridge of their nose and jaw line. I mean it is the most indepth Create a player that I have ever seen in any game by far. The amount of detail they put into this area is really good and makes for a cool experience on drying to duplicate yourself. I would comment about career mode but I only got through the CAB part of it before I went to bed.

    Commentary:

I like the commentary but then again I have never played a Fight Night game before so I can't say if it is just repetitive from last year or not.

    Online:

Now this is where the games bread and butter is. This is the best game I have ever played online. Granted I suck being 4-11 but out of all 15 games I played only one had even the slightest amount of lag. All other 14 games were COMPLETELY lag free. It was amazing how responsive the game was online and how it seemed to have no lag. Both players have to pick a fighter in the same weight class and you can use your CAB online I think. I had some great wars online with a couple making it into the 10th round. This game is a great experience online.

So this is my take on these areas of the game and if anyone has any questions feel free to ask. I absolutely love the game so far but then again I am new to the series so I can't say if this game is just a remake of FNR2 or not. But as a newcomer to the series it is extremely well done and makes for one hell of a fun fighting game. The online is almost flawless and the graphics will have you in awe all the time.

My rating of this game so far would have to be 9.5/10.

Is the EA SPORTS HAYMAKER (TM) still a big part of gameplay? If so I'm sitting Round 3 out.

PS Anybody know the best way to get a 360? I'm not willing to way overpay, but there's got to be a light at the end of the tunnel somewhere.

Well Sam there is the haymaker along with the stun punch and flash KO. I did not notice a whole lot of haymakers that connected because a lot of the times when they are thrown it takes a while to get them off and by that time I could block. So unless you just step into one you should be ok. Like I said I did not play Round 2 but from what I have heard from others that have

And Microsoft has announced that within the next month you will be able to walk into any store and buy a 360. They said the shortage is coming to an end very soon.

I bought Fight Night 2004 on Gamefly for like 5 bucks, I love the game.

From what I hear, the game hasn't changed much from its first edition (2004) to the next (Round 2 & Round 3)

If the 360 graphics are that good though it might be worth it.

Nothing like making a 7' 300lbs dude with tattoos that scream "I just got out of prison, and I don't mind going back".

Is the core system the one without the hard drive and HD cables?

I'll probably wait for that one to become available rather than buying them piecemeal if it's only going to be another month.

I've heard that since Fight Night doesn't incorporate the EA SPORTS HAYMAKER (tm) it plays a little more realistically.

Dunno what that is.. but.. their are two "special" punches for each boxer.. a haymaker is one option.

    Pretty much...

    here is the link

    http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/xbox360/xbox360customize.htm

The hard drive is only $100 bucks, but then you don't get the better cables or wireless controller.

and Sam to let you know again I really did not get hit with many haymakers. From what I have read from other sites is that this was a problem last year but they toned it way down.

I'm in the same boat, although, I thought I read it would be somewhere like 4-6 for inventory levels to come up...but hell, i don't know...

Good to know - at the higher levels it just became a haymaker fest.

Indeed... I loved the original to death, but Round 2 just wasn't fun, all because the haymakers were too overpowered. Simple as that. Makes me skeptical about Round 3, but I'm sure I'll take a look at some point.

Fight Night Round 3 is simply amazing guys...I cant say enough about it. AFter logging atleast a couple hundred hours on FN2, this one blows it out of the water. The controls are responsive, but it runs a little slower than the last version to counteract the haymaker fest problem with round 2. With this game you acutally have to plan jabs, straights, parrys, and blocks within your fight, something i didnt even bother with in FN2. There are still haymakers that can be thrown, but they are slowed down in order to be given a chance to block or parry. My only complaint is i dont have an HDTV to fully see how beautiful game this really is!!!

I bought it lastnight for PS2. When I first started playing it, I thought it was too damn slow. But after playing it for 30 mins, it didnt seem so slow. Its weird, I like it a lot though, i still think the original fight night is the best though...

I had a war last night between me and my friend. I was using Diego Corrales and he was Erik Morales. We started the fight and I basically got my ass kicked for 7 rounds and was knocked down 3 times. Well Corrales has a stamina rating of 95, and you could really tell he was not getting very tired, beat up yes but not tired. Well Corrales also has a lot of speed so I was going in with jabs and straights to the head and body working some combinations, and ended up getting a knockdown on Morales. After that Morales really started to lose the sting he had earlier in the fight. So the next two rounds I am using my speed to get some good shots off and after I knocked him down the 3rd time he was out for good in the 10th. This fight was very back and forth and early in the fight I thought Corrales was done, but he just weathered the storm and finished strong to earn the KO victory. Seemed VERY true to the ratings. This is one great ****ing game.
