Well for me personally its got nothing to do with him being Aussie. I just hate his attitude the constant fist pumping when it comes off his opponents error as opposed to a winner. He just has no class on the court, not to mention the fact that i think he is over-rated as a player and his game bothers me. I knew that once mens tennis picked up again he wouldn't even sniff the top 5, and he hasn't. And i love watching Federer constantly destroy him almost as much as Federer enjoys doing it (although he'd never admit it-now thats class).
In hewitt's defense, he has toned it down quite a bit ever since his child was born, although it seems like he isn't playing as well either but at least he's been a bit more sportsmanlike lately relative to what he used to be pre-baby birth
He has, but then again getting bounced out of tournaments one after another doesn't do much for your arrogance. I think being a father probably has toned it down though, fair call.
Fair enough list, but I don't have much faith in the Americans. Roddick has lost his touch, Blake can't play the big games as yet, and Agassi might as well be retired. I like Keifer, Haas, Hewitt, and Robredo to round out the top 10.
Well yeah i said injuries aside, i also think its time for Agassi to step down, that one last grand slam is out of reach IMO. I still think Roddick has what it takes to win another slam but the draw, and lady luck (federer getting KO'd by someone else) has to be on his side. Tennis is a very unpredictable sport, where any player can be beat. But in the event that every player played consistantly at thier best, i think its safe to say Hewitt will never win another Slam in his entire life.
I think roddick's best chance will be on grass and only IF Federer gets knocked out. Grass usually means quick points and roddick's chances to win decrease when the point is prolonged. He just doesn't have the mental patience to grind out a match. Blake is best on fast courts. It will be interesting to see how he plays on grass but on clay again he doesn't have the patience for grinding out points either. The clay will definitely slow his hard-pounding game. Nadal is shaping out to be a thorn in Federer's side, if only on clay so far this year but a win is still a win. I definitely want to see how nadal can compete with federer on grass or hardcourt though. I think nadal's whippy strokes might give him problems on grass where the bounce of the ball can be erractic but on hardcourt he can still give federer a run for his money.
Federer just evened the head-to-head record with one of his nemeses, Nalbandian, at six apiece by beating him in the semi earlier today. This is not looking good for Nalbandian, to my delight. The Federer Express Law dictates once Federer catches an opponent in their matchup and goes ahead, there will be no point of return. That Nadal kid should be very afraid, as Federer is about to turn the tide on the kid's favorite surface, making him a one-slam wonder.
Nalbandian retired from the match against Fed. Fed wasn't looking too good in the early parts of the match though. He lost the first and was down quite a bit in the second.
I pulling for Federer, just because I have such tremendous respect for the gracefulness of his game. The shots that he's capable of pulling off can be absolutely breathtaking when he's "in the zone." I actually really like Nadal and his fire, but his all-or-nothing, grind-it-out style of play isn't exactly the type of tennis that makes my jaw drop.
Well, injury and ability to overcome injury are part of the game. Everybody has to live with that, no exception. Nalbandian did not retire when he was up, he did it when he was trailing. Pete Sampras registered a win over Scud when the Australian had to retire in the 1999 Wimby quarter when leading. There is no * necessary either. Fed wasn't all 100% recovered from his leg injury when he lost to Nalbandian in last year's Master Cup final. Fed made no excuses. He moved on and continued to dominate the field.
I hope Federer finally pulls out a win against nadal this year. I think the pressure is on Nadal to repeat and beat Federer once again which may work in Federer's favor. He has seemed a bit shaky in recent finals at times and he even admitted to feeling some pressure of being expected to win at the australian open. Federer in 4. 6-4, 4-6 7-6, 7-5
I hope Federer wins it. He is just an amazing player. This was the match i was looking forward to(however i will not be able to watch it )
