Chicken Garlic Gourmet from Roundtable. I love that pizza. I stopped getting anything else a long time ago.
Collina's. The spices they use in the sauce and crust (which is great) combine to make a great pizza. For most flavor per square inch, I like to get their lunch sized pizzas.
There is a place on West Gray between Dunlavy and Waugh called Romano's that has been open for I think a couple of years. I haven't made it over there yet, but two friends of mine, both of whom grew up in NYC and relocated to Houston during the late 80s/early 90s, rave about the place. These are a couple of guys that have always complained about Star, Barry's and the other pizza places in town. These guys swear that Romano's is the most authentic NYC pizza in Houston. I've got to get over there one of these days.
"First Lady Barbra Bush" pizza at Fuzzy's: grilled chicken, spinach, artichoke hearts & mushrooms deep dish wheat crust from Star w/ grilled chicken, fresh basil, mushrooms & onions crawfish & basil pizza at Louisiana Pizza Kitchen in New Orleans
I wish they made a veal milanese pizza. That would rock. I dig Star Pizza, all kinds, no mushrooms please. Keneally's for late night. Best Pizza in USA is in Chicago. I dont get NYC style.
All Chicago places: Best pizza out is Giordano's. Best delivered is Rizzata's. Best frozen pizza is Home Run Inn.
Anyone here old enough to remember when Godfather's pizza first opened back in the early 80's? Their pizza was the best at the time, IMHO. I can't find anything that is close to that since. Something happened, their pizza didn't taste as good as it once was. Papa John's is probably my favorite now, still not as good as the old Godfather's.
Nope. Where is it? I think I recall you mentioning this place before, and that it was in the Chicago area?
I can't ever remember the exact location...I wanna say Hwy 43 (Green Bay Road) and Rockland Rd. in Lake Bluff.
Pizza is pretty hard to screw up, but I really like these places: Star Pizza Keneally's J Christopher's (in Kingwood) Frank's
I will check that out sometime, 95. Thanks for the heads-up... though it is a way's away from me. Godfather's did indeed rock. Pizza Royal at Louetta/Kuykendahl, back in the early 80's.... yummy. Oooh, the J. Christopher's at Cypresswood and Kuykendahl (if that's even still there?), that was really good as well.
Is Gino's East in Chicago that place with the crust that tastes a little like cornbread? Man that's good pizza. In Houston its gotta be Star Pizza (Joes deep dish with whole wheat crust) But if you're ever in New York on vacation, or if you live in New York, you've got to eat at a place called Grimaldi's. Its underneath the Brooklyn Bridge on the Brooklyn side and the pizza there is out of this world. You will never wait less than 30 minutes to get in but it is sooooooooooooooo worth the wait. Then after you've tasted a bit of heaven and finished it off with a cannolli and some coffee you can walk down to the pier with your sweetheart to take in the view of downtown manhattan. It's all about the sauce!
