I swear, as I get some real free time I'm going to annoy y'all with millions upon millions, upon millions....upon millions of guitar threads....so prepare yourselves [IMG]

Anyways, who some of y'alls favorite new guitarists -- I'm talking about guys that have emerged only within the last couple years or so?

I'd have to go with Billy Howredel (A Perfect Circle), hands down. Awesome tone, excellent texture, seems to have a knack for when to loosen the reins and let the song breathe, and when to to pull it back together again. His work on "Orestes" and "Magdelena" are exceptional -- not to mention "Judith" is one of my all time favorite songs of all time!

Well my favorite guitarist has been playing on my stereo for 6 or 7 years now so that's fairly new, hehe.

Tom Morello from Rage is my favorite guitarist. It's amazing what that dude does with his guitar to produce those messed up effects. Plus I just love Rage Against the Machine, they're one of the few bands that didn't really sell out after they became popular. Their music still has a message and I love them for it, especially with so many other bands like Korn and Metallica just producing the same crap over and over.

I heard after Zack de la Rocha left the band, that they might form a new band with Chris Cornell (Soundgarden fame) as the lead singer.

I love Soundgarden and I love Rage, I hope this rumor will come true.

    BGM --

What's weird is that roomate loves Rage too! He used to blast them 24/7 back when we were freshmen.

Tom Morello is the sh^t, though -- and if that Cornell rumor comes true, damn!

I don't know their names but the guitarists from former Days of the New were great. That band played all acoustic guitars, and still wrote solos that were better than half the crap you hear on the radio today.

What ever happened to the long lost art of guitar solos?

    Runnin' Raven --

I think Travis Meeks played some guitar on that album -- the other guy's name is right on the tip of my tongue...

You should defintely check Tantric -- its the three former members of Days of the New (minus Meeks) with a new singer -- who ironically sounds very similiar to Meeks. Anyways, its along the same vein as DotN with some electric stuff thrown in.

    As Regards Solos... --

To be honest, I don't think many think many among the current crop of guitarist out there in modern rock are competent enough to put together a decent solo. Recently, solos have begun to creep back into alt-rock, most notably in 3 Doors Down and Oleander, but even then they seem like watered-down Cobain solos.

Fortunately, Stone Temple Pilots drop their new one around July 4 -- and all will be well with rock again.

Tom Morello-Ratm-Ever since Rage began they have been in my top 2 favorite groups of all time.
Tim Mahoney-311-The second half of my top 2.

BGM, I too would love Cornell to take over the reigns of vocals.

Well, he's not "NEW", but the band is becoming more popular as of late -- I'd have to go with Victor Wooten from Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. He's a monster on the bass guitar . . .

This is just not the era of the guitarist. Personally, I really like what Ritchie Kotzen has done with Stanley Clarke - 70's fusion revisited.

I like Perfect Circle. That guy is cool. Tom Morello is always great.

Good call of Victor Wooten. That guy is a GOD of bass! I wish I could play like him!

I thought I'd add my favorite bassist too.

Les Claypool of Primus is UNBELIEVABLE!

There aren't enough adjectives to describe the dude in my opinion.

My favorite guitarist is John Frusciante (Red Hot Chili Peppers). He isn't really new, but he's not that old either. His solos are amazing. I even have his solo album. He has inspired me to learn how to play.
