You must be familiar with Toumani Diabate then. He is Ali Farka Toure's protege. He plays the kora. <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/4101UiBRAJw?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/4101UiBRAJw?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object> <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/-9pwNboDErY?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/-9pwNboDErY?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
You know, as a hip hop head since a little kid, it is great to see hip hop/rap right up there at one of the top spots. People complain about rappers like Soulja Boy and others but I'm glad hip hop is finally accepted by the mainstream audience. There was a time when most people thought hip hop was the devil and it looked like it would always be the outcast. Now, hip hop is everywhere. I LOVE IT!
yes, im very familiar w/ him too - love the albums those two did together. ali farka toure was an amazing dude. he is a 70th generation kora player - that must be at least 1000 years - quite a pedigree. Diabaté comes from a long family tradition of kora players including his father Sidiki Diabaté, who recorded the first ever kora album in 1970. His family's oral tradition tells of 71 generations of musicians preceding him in a patrilineal line. His cousin Sona Maya Jobarteh is a premiere female diaspora kora player. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toumani_Diabaté

Ah, good ole Ska. Westbound Train, Slackers to Streetlight Manifesto, Mad Caddies. Good stuff for lots of moods, from the chill to the completely zany.
