I am going to a party next week. The theme is that you are supposed to bring your two favorite movie scenes - a comedy and something else. A few of mine: Jaws - comparing scars on the Orca. Scent of a Woman - school court scene What About Bob? - Bob on Good Morning America Shawshank Redemption - The whole sequence from when Red is released until the end. Princess Bride -Inigo fighting Wesley. I know of people at the party who have not seen Scent of a Woman or Shawshank. I don't want to ruin a movie for them. The others may not be fun out of context. What are some of your favorites?
Wet Hot American Summer- The "going to town" scene Clockwork Orange- The intro to jail scene So does everyone at the party show their fav scenes?
The Big Lebowski - Smokey was "Over the line" scene Dog Day Afternoon - "Attica!" scene Caddy Shack - "Cinderella story. Outta nowhere. A former greenskeeper, now, about to become the Masters champion. It looks like a mirac ... It's in the hole! It's in the hole! It's in the hole!" Clerks - The "Death Star" debate Mallrats - I hope his pants get caught and a bloodbath ensues. I don't wish the kid harm, but his mother should suffer that horrific ordeal... So she'll learn how to manage her child ! Man, there's not a year goes by... that I don't read about some escalator accident involving some b*stard kid... That could've been easily avoided had some parent-- I don't care which one-- But some parent conditioned him to fear and respect that escalator! I could sit here all day and think of them.
Blazing Saddles - the scene where Mel Brooks, dressed as an Indian Chief, rides up to the black family in the wagontrain and starts speaking Yiddish to them. Midnight Cowboy - the scene where Jon Voight asks an old lady in the street if she knows where the Statue of Liberty is, and she replies "It's out in Central Park....taking a leak".
The Shining - Jack Torrance's conversation with Grady in the bathroom ("I CORRECTED her!") The Shawshank Redemption - When Andy is working on his boat and sees Red on the beach (but pretty much the whole time Red gets released from prison) Midnight Run - At the end when Jack (Robert De Niro) tells Eddie off and lets The Duke go A Clockwork Orange - When Alex gets home (early in the movie) and listens to "Ludwig Van's" 9th Symphony (the 2nd movement).
hmmm so many good ones. Casablanca, every scene is a great one, literally. The move is the closest to perfection without boring the hell out of you. 2nd to only citizen kane which would bore many folks. Hmm, When Michael kisses Fredo ummm When Paris picks up her phone an obscure reference, 2046, when The japanese guy asks the chinese girl if he loves him. When Bai Ling asks Chow to stay for one night, like good ole times. Patton's Speech American President's speech at the end. When Hal is talkin to Dave, " I'm sorry Dave" When Brando looks up after he's told Sonny's died (godfather 1)
The "You Can't Handle The Truth" scene from A Few Good Men. Jessep: You want answers? Kaffee: I think I'm entitled to them. Jessep: You want answers? Kaffee: I want the truth! Jessep: You can't handle the truth! Son, we live in a world that has walls. And those walls have to be guarded by men with guns. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Santiago and you curse the Marines. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know: that Santiago's death, while tragic, probably saved lives. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives...You don't want the truth. Because deep down, in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that wall. You need me on that wall. We use words like honor, code, loyalty...we use these words as the backbone to a life spent defending something. You use 'em as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom I provide, then questions the manner in which I provide it! I'd rather you just said thank you and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon and stand a post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you're entitled to! Kaffee: Did you order the code red? Jessep: (quietly) I did the job you sent me to do. Kaffee: Did you order the code red? Jessep: You're ******* right I did!!
i never tire of that one. also, Pulp Fiction - when Sam Jackson is explaining the bible quote to Tim Roth at teh breakfast table. Kill Bill 2 - Superman Speech Back to the Future - 1.21 GIGAWATTS!!!!
Oh I forgot to add.. EVERY scene in Spaceballs is GOLD.. but I really like the "stunt doubles" part the best..
Comedy: What's Up Doc - the burning hotel room scene (and the following scene with the hotel room manager) Blazing Saddles - any scene Spaceballs - any scene Office Space - Peter's day at work after going to the therapist Reservoir Dogs - Opening scene with crooks talking at diner
I'm dating myself, but nothing tops THE Phoebe Cates scene from Fast Times. A couple mopre off the top pf my head... Dazed and Confused: Chisum:
The last locker room scene in Hoosiers The last sequence of The Usual Suspects when Kaiser Soze is revealed
Well, that was the scene where Jules and Vincent waste Bret in his apartment. I thought that was the best scene in that movie What country you from? What? What ain't no country I ever heard of! They speak English in What? What? English, mother f*ck*r, do you speak it?!?!? Best scene from a comedy: 40 year old virgin - the scene where that guy at the electronics store is showing his ass in front of the movie camera and it's being shown on every TV in the store Best scene from the original Star Wars trilogy: Luke, Han, and Leia escaping from Jabba the Hut and Saarlac on Tatooine Coming To America: The barber shop scene where they' talking about boxing..."F*ck you, f*ck you, and f*ck you, who's next?"
Heat -- Pacino and Deniro...."there's a flip side to that coin." Garden State -- the conversation with his father towards the end i'll add more as i think about it today..these two came to mind almost immediately.
Baby Boy. "I try to be a good n*****" classic stuff "I'm not going to use the b-word. I just call y'all unstable creatures." "That's what it's all about. Guns and butter, baby! You little dumb m************." I could watch this movie a thousand times and still get a kick out of it.
Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb -- -slim pickens' character riding the bomb.
That is a great, great, great scene. That scene alones makes that movie worth watching every time it comes on.
Or how about one of my favorites... You can't fight in here! This is the War room! So many great scenes can't think of them all.
