What's yours? Here are my top choices. 1. Metallica 2. The Cult 3. Led Zeppelin 4. AC/DC 5. Motley Crue 6. Alice in Chains
Alice in Chains, heavy metal? Metallica is badass, can't wait for their concert with Godsmack on Friday. If you like modern metal, check out the Dillinger Escape Plan's new album, Miss Machine, it rocks.
I wonder if there should be some qualification for what exactly is "heavy metal." I mean, I don't consider Zeppelin or Nirvana heavy metal bands. I don't think of Rush or Van Halen as metal bands either, though I know some do. Myself, I'll go with a few classics... Queensryche UFO Rainbow Yngwie Malmsteen Talas Dokken Enuff Z'Nuff KISS Tesla Whitesnake
The Cult is a great band but I would not classify them as heavy metal, but more of a hard rock band same for Led Zeppelin and Alice in Chains. I would also hesitate to put Tool and A Perfect Circle in the heavy metal category - they are more of a hard progressive rock band. My list includes (in no particular order): AC/DC Judas Priest Pantera Black Sabbath (but only with Ozzy, also includes solo Ozzy) Motorhead Sepultura (more death metal than anything) Metallica (first 4 albums only)
It'd be quicker and easier to name the ones I don't like. But you can't go wrong with the legends: Pantera Metallica Sabbath Dio Guns 'N Roses Motley Crue Quicksand Anyone looking to check out some new metal they might not have heard of should try: Megatechnical Mathmetal - The Dillinger Escape Plan Dio-esque power metal - Three Inches of Blood Neo-thrash - Himsa BEST METAL EVER- Meshuggah
Sabbath, Sabbath, Sabbath. I wouldn't consider half the bands in this thread "heavy metal," but in the end: Sabbath, bloody, Sabbath.
