As a looooong time drummer, I'm pretty opinionated about this subject...

    - Buddy Rich is a legend. No one can touch him.
    - Neil Peart (from Rush) is amazing. Check out YYZ as exhibit #1...
    - Rick Allen (from Def Leppard) is an inspiration to others. The dude plays drums with one arm. You try that...
    - Phil Collins is a serious kickass drummer (don't laugh). I saw Genesis perform live in '93, and I thought the Drum Duet he performed with Chester Thompson was the coolest solo (... or duet) I've ever heard.
    - Jon Fishman (from Phish) is also amazing.

    Other drummers I like:
    Roger Taylor (Queen)
Kenny Aronoff (I know him for John Melloncamp stuff)
Carter Beauford (just because I like DMB...)
Ron Wilson (come on... the dude created Wipeout!)
    Jon Bonham (Led Zepplin)
    Max Weinberg (uh... j/k)

    Frank Beard (pre-Eliminator)
    Matt Cameron
    Don Henley

All I can think of for now that haven't been mentioned already...

Kudos to all named above...here is one that might not be thought of: Zak Starkey. Ringo's son now drums for the Who and is really great. Also, Pete Thomas of the Attractions is a bad mutha.
