You just mentioned my two all time favorites (and MASH wasn't one of them). And All in the Family was up there pretty high too for me. I guess we could have something in common.
Shady beat me to it. Animaniacs is a great cartoon. One of my favorite episodes is the one where Cliff gets drunk of non-alcoholic beer. Classic. I love all the characters. Favorite sitcom of all time.
Don't have a favorite character, but I always loved the one where Woody was elected to city council and Frasier keeps having visions of a hydrogen bomb going off. Also liked the one where Sam played a game of chess with the millionaire ("if I move my little horsey guy here . . .") and wins even after his cheating scheme malfunctions. Rebecca was ok at first when she had an ice queen vibe, but I couldn't stand her once she turned into the love sick whiny beeyatch who was chasing after the millionaire (Robin something or another).
What a great topic..... My favorite regular character was Cliff, he was just a bafoon and was hilarious at it. Time for a classic line: Norm walks in at the beginning...everyone yells NORM, Sam turns to him as he walks by and says... "What are you up to Norm?" Norm walks right by on his way to his stool and says.. "My ideal weight if I were 12 feet tall." CLASSIC !! DD "Women, can't live with em......pass the beernuts"
The episode where Sam competes with the Frenchmen to get as many girls as possible to go out with them is hilarious. Especially when Sam tells Carla to go to the basement and get his "equipment". And Carla responds with something like "he's just a pup, Sam. Don't do it." Then you have Cliff thinking he's a world class comedian and going on the Johnny Carson show and getting humiliated, with his mother stealing the show. And Norm just goes along because it's a free trip to California. Or the episode where the guys go to a drive in movie in Cliff's old car, and everything goes wrong. Also, Diane was a good character as well, she was the glue that fed the actors many of the funny lines and actions. Sort of like a whipping boy.
Also every time Cheers competes against the other local bar that always beats them is funny as hell. Remember the episode where Wade Boggs comes by Cheers, but they think its a trick by the other bar and they depants him and treat him horribly, then at the end find out the joke is on them.
Up until Monday night it was Norm, then I had dinner with Woody Harrelson at the Magnolia Cafe in Austin. Really cool guy. Michael Moore was also there. =]
man for me the rebecca years were so much better than the diane years, although after the first 2 years the diane years were great as well. maybe b/c the very little i saw of cheers when i was younger was the very end of the series and so to me before i started watching the repeats, the rebecca years was cheers. took me a while to come over to the diane years. also, she and sam fought too much sometimes, got in the way of the comedy.
I love Cheers! My favorite was always Carla. She had the best sarcastic lines. That woman was tough. Rebecca is a close second favorite. I guess because she was a modern and complex female character; sure she made a fool of herself sometimes, but so did all the characters. After that, Sam... he can be a jerk but you root for him anyway. Absolute least favorite: Diane. I cannot stand her. When she's onscreen, I have to pay attention to something else. She was just a snooty b!tch. I know, that's what she's supposed to be, but even having to watch her was unbearable. Maybe it's because I grew old enough to appreciate the show right after Rebecca came on board... or, on the other hand, maybe it was a lot easier to appreciate the show with Diane out of the way. For a while, I was disappointed that Sam didn't end up with Rebecca, though people tried to tell me it wouldn't work. Oh well, at least he didn't end up with Diane.
