Sandbox announced today that their baseball game will be opened no later than March 1st. That's only a week away, so I'd like to get draft info straightened out ASAP. I would like for everyone in the league to please respond with their opinion. Here are the choices: 1. Fast Live Draft: This type of draft takes place online in Sandbox's online draft system. Each team has a maximum of three minutes to make each pick. It usually takes about 2 hours to complete a fast live draft. Everyone has to be online at the same time. If you are not online, you will be placed into autopick mode, where players will be selected depending upon how you ranked them in your personal customized ranking lists. *** an important sidenote for the fast live format: The draft actually opens for making picks 24 hours before the scheduled start time. The 3 minute time countdowns won't start until the scheduled start time, but theoretically, it is possible to complete a fast live draft even before that fast live draft is scheduled to begin! Those who have not played Sandbox before may be a bit confused about that, but I'm sure the Sandbox vets know what I'm talking about and may be able to explain it a bit better for anyone that doesn't understand. 2. Slow Live Draft: As anyone who played in last year's baseball (or this year's football) league knows, they aren't kidding when they say it is a slooow draft. In this format, each team has up to 24 hours to make each pick. Everyone does not have to online at the same time for this draft. Speaking from experience, due to differences in time zones/work schedules, etc.., in a 14 team league of this type, it usually takes a day or more to get through a single round. With 20-something rounds in baseball, this means that it will take about a month to complete a slow live format.
==================
The main problem with the fast live format is that it is difficult to pick a day/time that everyone in the league can make. The main problem with the slow live format is that it is sooooo slow and occasionally frustrating (IMHO). We've tried scheduling meeting times in the past to get several rounds done at certain times, but they never pan out. Rest assured, a slow draft will be a long, tedious affair. As I said before, I would like for everyone to weigh in with their thoughts. Even if you don't care either way, respond anyway. I'd like to hear what all 13 of you have to say. Personally, I'd like to go with the fast live format myself, and try to get a draft date around the third week of March. It's hard to get a specific day/time good enough for everyone, but the slow draft is generally too drawn out for my tastes. If we do decide on slow, though, we'd have to start it as soon as possible (ie: March 1) to ensure we get it finished in time. Respond!
I vote for fast live-- the later in March, the better. Smeg's draft was a fiasco at times... we'd get 12 or 13 people there, but we were always missing one person, and it was a waste of a lot of GM's time. I'd hate to have something like that again. If we stall the draft until mid to late March, it gives any GM's who can't make it ample time to come up with a complete list for the autopick, and it also gives us time to read some spring training reports.
I don't see how we could possibly get 14 guys together for a fast live draft. We couldn't even get 10 guys together at one time for the slow draft. The slow draft would be fine if owners, who won't be around, queued up players and put it on auto-pick. Either one is fine by me. My vote is the slow draft.
For me it's the, I don't care either way, respond anyways choice . I like the quickness of the live draft, but also like the thinking time of the slow draft, so really it's indifferent to me. Whatever is convenient for everyone else..
I think i agree with BobFinn. It will be real hard to get everyone together for a fast draft. If we could agree to just keep a set of players qued up it might work better. Anyway I don't care either way just think the slow draft would be easier. CK
My vote is for the fast draft. If you can't make it, then just be sure to have your players arranged in the order you want them.
I would rather do the Live Slow Draft but it does seem to be a problem in this league. It doesent really matter that much to me though, so whatever everyone decides Ill go along with it. PS I am NO WHERE near ready yet, I think I better start catching up on my baseball offseason!?!
I'd prefer the slow live draft. True, it gets frustrating, but as others have said, I think the possibility of gathering all 14 owners at once would be equally as hard.
Well, I would much prefer the slow-live draft, as I do not like the hurried nature of the fast draft. And if we could get everyone on the ball, we could probably finish the draft in a minimum of time. It doesn't appear we have any absentee owners, so we could probably do this rather quickly.
I appreciate the optimism, and it's true that the slow draft does have its merits, but there is absolutely no way that it is going to get done "rather quickly." If we go with the slow draft, it will take at least three weeks, and most probably more, to get it finished. Baseball drafts are especially long (26 rounds as compared to only 20 for football). 26*14=364 total picks. I don't mean to sound snarky or pessimistic or anything, but that's just the simple truth. The slow draft does have some good points, but it's called "slow" for a reason.
fade, I gotta disagree with you on how long a slow draft will take. Most (if not all) of the guys in this league are online almost everynight (or day). The only ones that will hold up the draft are the owners who have yet to post in this thread. I will leave that for you guys to figure out who they are. If we could just get these guys to load up their draft list, we will have no problems. I think 2 weeks, at most, would be a closer estimation.
True, but it only takes one absent owner to hold everything up. To finish a draft in two weeks, we would have to average about two rounds per day. In football, on even our fastest day we never got through two rounds. Some days, we didn't even get through one. It would take nothing short of divine intervention to finish a slow baseball draft in two weeks.
