Rocketman Tex: you left out a famous 'actress' you alluded to in Macbeth's famous thread. Impressive list.
I had a talk with Dennis Miller in Las Vegas . He was just at the bar out in front of the theater where he was to do a show in about a half hour. This was in about 1994, right when Bud Adams was making threats about moving the Oilers to Nasville. When Dennis found out we were from Houston , that's all he wanted to talk about...How could the city let the oilers go? I told him the city told Bud "don't let the door hit you in the ass". Man was I wrong, I mourned our loss for years , Bottom line Bud and all. This was long before he took the Monday night football gig.
Yeah I know. I thought that one was a "given"! Thanks for the compliment on the list. It's amazing who you run into when you are a hard-living musician in Los Angeles for 12 years!
Pardon me while I get on my knees and bow down... OK. Anyway, I've met: -Weezer, after Austin show in 1996, they all signed my Blue CD cover -ZZ Top, after Eliminator show in Houston (my friends Dad played drums for them in high school!) -Ben Folds, quick hand-shake after Numbers show few years back -MC Hammer, hotel lobby on New Years Eve 10 years ago, very nice guy -Randy Travis and band, we opened for him in Beaumont last month. -James Taylor and band, we open for him on a side stage at one of his Woodlands shows -Chad Smith, RHCP drummer -Vinnie Colutia, drum-God at a PASIC Convention in San Antonio Finally, I met my idol...drum icon Dave Weckl. I got my picture taken with him and we had a long conversation at the PASIC convention in San Antonio. That pic is my prize posession. I won't post it here....for obvious reasons.
I met George Bush Sr. at the Oshman's in the fountains about five years ago. It was cool because he came in with four secret service agents. I met him, would have been like 13 or so, and my dad talked to him for five minutes or so. Later he saw me in the Golf demo that Oshmans has and said that he liked my swing.
Hmm. Let's see.. I've met Tree Rollins - he came to see a movie when I worked at the movie theater in Alief (can't remember the name now as its been 12 years) Eddie Van Halen - he just happened to be on the street in LA when I was about 12. Phish - got backstage once and met all the guys. Super cool.. Dan O'Brien - he came to my college (Washington State) and gave a guest lecture. Afterwards, I met him and asked who his favorite b-ball player was. His response - Hakeem! Calvin Murphy - we brought some cookies to the Blazers/Rockets game last year. I think thats it..
I've camped with Clyde Drexler and his son, met Roger Clemens, Shaq, and Craig Biggio. Talked a lot with Kevin Costner. I think thats all EDIT: Oh yeah, I met Steve Francis and talked with him
I forgot that Warren Moon's son used to swim in the same summer league as me. I was 17 and he was probably 12 and killed every kid his age group. I'm sure he could've beaten me and most of the kids my age too.. Warren Moon was at several swim meets but usually surrounded by a couple big dudes so approaching him was out of the question.
Actually, no he didnt. In a later episode, it was discovered that John Voight/Voit that owned it previously did not spell his name the same way as the famous John Voight. So my post was right on. YOU guys are the ones that are slipping.
True, but Jon Voight, the actor, spells his last name as Voight and not Voit or did I miss something? His first name was misspelled because he had no "h" in his first name. The reason why I know is that my real name is Jonathan but I go by Jon and I get my name spelled as "John" all the time. Used to bother me, but I am used to it now.
I've met a few sports figures and assorted celebs. Many years ago I was at a pro-am golf tourney. Our team had one pro and four amateurs, Carl Mauck was one of the amateurs. Carl Mauck was maybe the worst golfer I have ever seen, but he could drink mass amounts of beer. In this pro-am they were giving away a prize for the longest drive. One hole was selected to be the long-drive hole. A little sign with pen and paper was attached to a spike and placed in the middle of the fairway. If you hit a long drive, you were supposed to write your name down on the paper and place it where your drive ended up. Nobody in our group could hit a tee shot past the little sign. So Carl Mauck, after drinking about a case of beer at this point, decides to have a little fun. Carl grabs the sign and writes down the name Anita Martini. He then places the sign about 375 yards from the tee. Carl thought it was real funny.
