LMAO some 24 year old man named Rodrigo Montano pretended to be a student at Rice. He is charged for theft, from the free food he got on campus. Apparently, he was able to make fake IDs. He went to class even!

they're gonna charge him for food? don't you think the education was more valuable? (if he got one, or some)

yeah if you really think about it.
anyone could sit in on really huge classes, like at say, a UT, and get away with a pretty nice education withough paying.
i mean i went one time to forge the attendence sheet with a friends name, and no one even noticed. i didnt get anything out of the lecture of course but if i had wanted to...

I don't have the time or energy to look it up but I recall that in the 70's someone went thru med school at a major university this way and actually went on to practice medicine on a forged license. I recall it was more than 5 years before they eventually were caught.

As a Rice alumnus, I am sad to say that "college chicks" at Rice are not a good thing. Think about the student body and tell me how many good looking valedictorians and national merit scholars you know. Not too many. Rice chicks are the worst!!

I guess someone could sit in on big classes, but it would be a big waste of time. You would get no credit, and you can't forge transcripts and a degree easily anymore. Unless you want to learn I see no point.

This story reminds me of the married couple who are now Rice RA's cause they did not want to leave campus. Grow up.

Also reminds me of the UT football player named Ron Weaver. Dude was like 30 something playing under Ron McKelvey's name. I believe McKelvey was another football player who quit cause of injuries but had eligibility.

    Smokey,

Obviously, you've never witnessed the inept power of a BA in English. It ain't worth the paper it's printed on. ;)

This story goes even deeper. The guy had walked-on to the track team and was actually working out with them. He was in the process of getting NCAA clearance to compete. Also, he was dating a girl (a freshman) and living in her room...

If you looked at my course load, you'd think I was at a junior college and not the University of Texas.

    hahahaha :D

I was gonna mention that, but I was too tired last night to add it.

On top of all that, the guy also volunteered to help out at a Cross Country meet one Saturday morning at 7AM!!! All because he was a part of the "track team".

You are allowed to audit a class, I know that. It's our right as U.S. citizens. But, when he applies for a job and stuff, what does he say? Come to think of it, I'm not sure alot of employers even check if so and so went to said university. Kinda think the guy is a weasel, but maybe he had no other choice? Or he couldn't get in?

There is a gross miscarriage of justice if he is charged for stealing Rice food. It is that bad.

It actually is a somewhat disturbing story. There is a possibility the guy is mental and actually thought he was a student.

    http://thresher.rice.edu/news/

The "theft of services" thing was only because they couldn't find anything else to charge him with. The goal was to (a) find out how he got the ID [it wasn't forged, it was a genuine ID], (b) try to get the guy help if he wants/needs it.

Here's the story from the Chronicle:

    http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/story.hts/front/1599619

First, I can't believe he could get a Rice ID without a valid social security number. That's pretty scary. Second, there is no such thing as a free meal. Somebody wasn't doing their job. The guy might really be sick...I mean he was seen studying (for what?) at the library at 8 AM on a Saturday. That was a sure sign he was not a real student :D

The guy came up with a valid RICEID number, and a genuine (albeit trashed) University ID. Either of those things are more difficult to come up with than a valid SS#.
