I haven't checked your history on this BBS to see what type of stuff you've written. But imagine if suddenly everyone knew who you were and could look up what you've posted about in the past on here. I'm sure plenty of people would not want that information known.

I joined it when it was just a college thing, and nobody else could create an account or see any of your personal information. Now everyone is on there and I feel like deactivating my account, although there is nothing taboo on there. I don't for the sheer benefit of the occasional checking in on people.
Yes. I am. If I created a new account today and never mentioned anything private about myself, how would you ever find out who I was? At most Clutch (not you) would have the email I used to create the account with and the IP addresses I logged on the BBS from.
I too share your moral outrage over the quality of service of something I have never paid a dime for. I think you should demand a refund from Facebook.

Agree with those claiming that if you want true private social networking, pick up the once once in a while and dont rely on internet to provide it. But wanting privacy in a social network site is still a valid want. I wouldn't be surprise if they leak peoples informations on purpose to a whole bunch of companies out there. This leak is bad because you wouldn't know about it if someone who is not on your friend list told you about it.
I've talked to several HR professionals and it is now standard practice to google people during the interview process. They routinely weed out candidates based on what they find. Check out. www.pipl.com. If you don't set your Facebook privacy, it shows ALL of your facebook info on it ...plus a bunch of other crap. People who post crazy stuff on the internet and try to get a job ...are ignorant. Never mind if you should ever get into legal trouble. Investigators will totally character assassinate you based on stuff you've posted. What if you say on your status that you are out of town ...which presumes your house is empty. How well do you know all your "friends"? I've got "friends" from high school I haven't seen in 20 years. I have no idea if they are career criminals. In short, posting personal stuff on the internet is dumb.
Random related story. The other day at work, my boss ran into an employee of the client. The client says, "How's it going, Matt?" (My boss's name isn't Matt.) He looked kind of funny. The client says, "Facebook". It turns out that his wife, who is addicted to some Facebook game and set up another profile under his name to play more. I don't know whether he was looking at his profile for any official reason, but he certainly looked all of us up.
