For discount 1TB+ drives, it's really the brand AND the model. WD Elements= crap shoot. WD Green= a different league, Seagate Barracuda=horrible reviews. At the very least, I'd read some newegg reviews on the drive you're interested in.
The WD Elements is a great external HDD. The other two you mention are internal, so I don't think they're relevant here anyway but I'd go with a Samsung F3 if you're looking for an internal rather than a WD Green (people have said it dies early).
where could i get this coupon i need another 2TB external for my ps3 that if true with the coupon would be total t*** man
Since they are unique coupons, either you'd have to buy one off of eBay for a couple of bucks or find someone around a forum who would lend one.
So the WD Elements is better than the WD Passport? And to get this deal, I need to wait until Monday but also buy a coupon off Ebay? Sorry if my questions are so basic but I really know nada about tech stuff. I do like that the WD you pulled up seems small. I know I want at least 1 TB and I want it to be portable. My last external was a Seagate and it just died on me. I'm actually buying a new one so I can try to have my data transferred from the broken one (and Best Buy is gonna tag me $100 to do that).
I lost so many photographs and web design projects when my old XHD crashed that I'm too upset to get a new one. They are looking nice these days, affordable too.
If any of you are looking for hard drive space, you can get an internal 2TB Samsung F4 drive (3-platter drive) for $79 from Newegg... no coupons, no rebates, no Black Friday, no Cyber Monday, no whateverthehell Tuesday required. It's an awesome drive if you want to be uh.... "green" or if you want to save a ton of backups or need a ton of storage. I just bought 3 over the past couple of weeks. They actually had this thing as their Shell Shocker deal a few weeks ago for $69 or $79 and allowed you to stack an instant coupon on top of it. They were selling for $59, but I missed it. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152245
Well... tbh, I'm not too familiar with the WD passport series. The one thing I do know about the WD passport is that it uses a micro USB cable.. I've heard good things about the element. And yes, for this deal to be $50.. you'll have to wait until Monday (though I think Staples really starts Cyber Monday on Sunday) and have a $25 off $75 staples coupon. You could just get it for $70, which is how much Target is selling it for on Friday. I've never been a fan of Seagate and I've only really had experience with Samsung and WD as far as external drives go. I can tell you that I haven't had any major issues with WD, I've nitpicked a little bit on how they could have a better interface to upload stuff, but the drive itself is a great drive. EDIT: Here's a pretty good deal on a Seagate 2TB USB 2.0/3.0 External HDD on Bestbuy.com - $90 w/ free shipping http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Seagate...ategoryId=pcmcat186100050005&id=1218251232104 Review from cnet isn't too bad. http://reviews.cnet.com/external-ha...lex-desk/4505-3190_7-34114740.html#cnetReview You save about $30 from Newegg's $120.
Really you need multiple hard drives now, at least 2. Redundancy, need to have a backup of the backup, mirror drives of each other. Last year I impulsively bought an extra external drive just because it seemed the "thing" to do. I'm not a techie person really. I copied everything on my older Seagate external onto the new drive just to be cute and "safe", and a couple weeks later the Seagate drive totally gave out. Boy was I GLAD I did that. The extra $100 spent was definitely worth it.
Thanks for the help. I picked up this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0041OSQ9S/ref=oss_product I tried to nab this one but it was out of stock (pg 5 on the ad): http://weeklyad.target.com/target/default.aspx?action=entryflash&flash=y&adref=beta http://www.target.com/Western-Digital-Elements-Portable-Drive/dp/B003B8PPEY/ref=sc_qi_detaillink?ref=sc_wa_qi_var&fromwa=true&asin=B003B8PPEY&description=&finalprice=69.0000&highprice=&lowprice=&name=WESTERN+DIGITAL+ELEMENTS+1TB+portable+hard+drive&saleshandle=Sale&productcode=B003B8PPEY&offer=&deal=$69&zipcode=75703&
I got this even though I didn't need it. Instead of thinking, buy it now, and thank me later. (from FW) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...NC-Facebook-_-na-_-na-_-na&nm_mc=SNC-Facebook As a special thank you for our Facebook fans, we wanted to give you one more exclusive deal as Black Friday winds down. WD 1.5 TB External Drive for $59.99 + Free Shipping. Use Promo Code: WD15TB Valid for the first 1000 customers!
http://www.amazon.com/Western-Digit...ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1290826561&sr=1-1 Same drive, just a little bigger (2 TB) for $10 more...
Does that mean it's good or bad? I used to use the regular/cheap WD/Seagates until some of them died on me. Now I only buy the WD Blacks, which have performed flawlessly so far.
