Do y'all prefer the states where exits are numbered in strict counting order (like New York and New Jersey), or where they're numbered based on the mile markers to which they correspond (like Pennsylvania)? How does Texas do it? I think mile-marker numbering kicks ass on a super number of levels.
In states where there are many areas in urban sprawl, freeway exit numbers appearing in sequence definitely have far better appeal to travelers. In states where population are concentrated in a few large cities, miles-based numbering systems work better.
Mile-Markering all the way for sure. Counting gets confusing as hell in major cities with all the merges and bull****s going on.
Mile Marker (the Texas way) definitely. I can understand the hassle in the city when you can get Exit 22B, 22C etc. but for long trips down the highway, the mile marker system kicks major butt.
I don't know if these are hard and fast rules, but from my experience, interstate highway exit numbers correspond with the mile markers, but those other miscellaneous highways (state highways, toll roads, turnpikes, etc) seem to more often have the sequential exit numbers.
It doesn't matter to me...pluses for both. But if you need a plus for the numerical thing.. when I'm driving in a mile-marker place and I'm looking for exit 17... and I see exit 14.. I like knowing that I'm 3 exits away as opposed to looking at my odometer and trying to watch for 3 more miles. Cause otherwise I pass 14, keep driving, talking to someone, next exit, 15...oh wait no, suddenly it's 17! So yeah, that's a check for numerical
