ESPN is reporting that Ewing has reached agreement on a deal with Orlando. ------------------ Whooops! I missed the fact this was already posted. Sorry. [This message has been edited by bobrek (edited July 13, 2001).]
That's just sad. I'd hate to see what Dream would look like in those blue-striped unis... Patrick should have gone back to NY so he can finish his career there. ------------------ "Oh No..." -Bill Walton in 97 just before Stockton's buzzer beater
You know what, this is a great move for ORL. 1. Ewing could serve as a terrific mentor for Haywood (and Hunter). Say whatever you want about Ewing, but the guy's a SERIOUS worker and brings it every night, which happens to be the main knock against Haywood, that Haywood doesn't bring it all the time (but Haywood doesn't seem to be as hopeless as Cato so there's still hope for him). If just some of Ewing's work ethic rubs off on Haywood (like some of Moses' work ethic rubbed off Barkley), Haywood could be a load for years. 2. Much like Dream, Ewing is still a decent NBA C (which is both a compliment to Ewing and a criticism of the talent level at C in the league) capable of avg. 8-10 pts, 8-10rebs, and 2 blks a game. 3. It's always a good thing when you can sign a decent-to-solid player like Ewing to a cheap, short contract. 4. ORL should be a contender next year, giving Ewing another opportunity to chase that ever elusive ring. If Haywood and Hunter fulfill their potential, they could be great compliments to the Hill\TMac\Miller trio. Potential future Magic lineup: C - Haywood PF - Hunter G\F - Miller G\F - TMac G\F - Hill Twin Tower lineup? (Remember, Haywood's 7'2" 270lbs, Hunter's 7'0" 220-230lbs but can get bigger) 3 6'8" versatile, athletic, interchangeable players on the perimeter? Solid bench? (Armstrong, Sasser, Ewing) This could be the team that poses the biggest threat to the Lakers (and Sixers) in the near future. ------------------ [This message has been edited by Live (edited July 13, 2001).]
I don't think so. Brenda is still soft and Hunter will be a bust. Ewing is past his prime and Grant may only have another year or 2 left in the tank. I don't think any of those 4 are long-term solutions to filling the 4 and 5 spots for a Championship contending team. Next year, I think the Raptors will battle the 76ers in the Confrence Finals unless the Bucks add a quality big man. ------------------ President of the Eddie Griffin fan club.
ESPN is also reporting they are close to a deal with Charles Oakley. Maybe the Magic should change their nickname to the Geritol!! ------------------ "Blues is a Healer" --John Lee Hooker
