No offense, but did you have a bad day or something? This whole thread sounds like you're looking for people to yell at and 'debate' the obvious: fast food is bad. But just because people post in a basketball forum thread about fast food doesn't mean they eat fast food every single day and give no care to their health. Did anyone say they thought their health was 'convenient and cheap?' What's w/ all the strawman arguments?

And I'm not defensive at all. I saw this as the most recent thread on the bbs page for D&D and was curious why on earth it's here. I don't think the issue is really debatable unless you take an accusatory tone like yourself. I'm the last one who should be posting here, because the extent of my fast food is a veggie sandwich at Jimmy John's (which I might eat once a week tops, not every single meal before you make more assumptions). Not because it's healthy (it's probably not, w/ the mayo, guac, and cheese) or I'm trying to watch my weight (I'm probably at least 20lbs underweight and couldn't gain weight to save my life), simply because it's the only fast food I really crave out of choice, not convenience. And I hate most vegetables in general, strangely enough.

Just because I talk about a beer I like doesn't automatically make me an alcoholic who DUI's on weekends.

You know, that is a good point. But if you read the thread in the GARM it appears that people eat fast food every day and they are proud and excited about it. Maybe I took it too literally. Houston is one of the fattest cities too, so perhaps it all fits together.

And I agree with the poster who said eating it occassionally won't hurt you ( I do it), and also agree with the poster who said it isn't any worse than a frozen pizza.

Hey, to each his own. Right now I am trying to eat a little healthier and mix in a work out now and then. There have been times in my life where I have pretty much eaten vast amounts of whatever and whenever I felt like, and washed it down with a fountain of beer. Living in such a way as to improve my body and physical health doesn't come naturally to me, but I make it a point to try, because I want to be around a while longer to enjoy the things that DO come naturally to me.

I write and act for community theater, I read great literature, stay informed and active in politics, support the arts. I know some people at my gym who work out 6 times a week, eat only lean chicken, fish and veggies and fruit with occasional whole grains. But any form of entertainment that isn't televised sports, Miami Ink, or an action movie makes their brain hurt. I don't hold em in contempt though, they just excel at a different area of personal development, and have prioritized things somewhat differently.

I hear you. I actually felt a similar surprise at how fervent people talked about it, but I figured I'm outside the norm in those respects. It's not that surprising is it? I guess I'm lucky I haven't developed a strong taste for most fast food (granted I avoided it to start w/ because it was still cheaper to cook as a broke college student). But I've also found I've grown apart from things I used to like, like potato chips, most candy, etc. Don't get me wrong, I still love pizza and wings. I think my choices in junk food has narrowed each year.

People can talk fervently about something and still not be addicted to it. If I had to list the food I would eat if there were no negative effects to them, it would be an incredibly unhealthy list... Greasy burgers, pizza, fried stuff, etc.

But I eat these foods at most once a week, because I can't afford the problems(health and look) that goes along with it.

Anyone else hit up the new Taco Bueno in south Austin yet? I went last week, and it was tremendous.

I love Chik-Fil-A. I love everything about it except that it's closed on Sundays. I love the chicken sandwich, the nuggets, the waffle fries, the cole slaw, the brownies and the lemonade. And I talk about it every chance I get.

I've also been vegan for 15 years and vegetarian for 21 years.

But if I ever should lapse and eat meat or dairy again, I will be at Chik-Fil-A every day for a year. And when that year is up, I'll get me 10 Jack in the Box super tacos, a bacon cheeseburger AND chicken sandwich from Burger King and twenty-five large fries from McDonalds, soaked in beef tallow. While we're on the subject, what ever happened to Hamburgers By Gourmet? That **** was the bomb.
