Great analysis Vengeance. I'm really starting to love this album. One thing I'm thankful for is that I haven't been listening to the radio for the last two months or so because I'm just starting to get into "I Did It". My bet is that this makes DMB (sorry Achebe) the top rock group out there today. While they're near the top, or at the top as far as touring goes, that's more a result of the loyalty their fans show. Everyday is designed to win over everyone, not just his loyal supporters. I hope they pull a U2 (Zooropa not long after Achtung Baby), and release another album full of all the stuff they recorded this summer in the near future. Vengeance, I have a Warehouse 5 CD which is live performances of "Crush", "Warehouse", "#41" (a great 20 minute jam with Bela Fleck), "Say Goodbye" and "Two Step". Interested? I'd love to have a CD of the Lillywhite stuff. ------------------ www.swirve.com...The reason Al Gore invented the internet.
Veagence -- Man,I wish I could agree with you. I love the Dave Matthews Band -- UTTAD, BTCS, and Crash are all in my top ten favorite albums all time. I don't think I've ever heard a more talented group of musicians outside the arena of jazz. That being said, 'Everyday' just killed me. Absolute trash. Outside of "I Did It", nothing on this album works. Too much Dave, not enough of the Dave Matthews Band. I dunno -- BTCS was landmark to me in that the Band proved they could work and refine a song in the studio without losing the jam feel. Every track off that album had an individual feel to it -- Rapunzel is a light, poppy appetizer leading the growling, middle easternish Last Stop, which in term slips into something almost backwoodsy Lousiana, "Don't Drink the Water". "Stay" picks up that UTTAD jam feel and skipping ahead, "Crush", my absolute favorite DMB song ever, does the whole smokey jazz feel up to perfection. How dissappointing then that they'd ignore what made BTCS so successful and just pump out a pop album. Everything sounds the same. Where's Leroi and Boyd? Hell, where the rest of the band go? Ugh.
