Who can blame them, we haven't been to the playoffs in 3 years, and our team hasn't changed significantly since last year. That said, there is a bit of bias towards the city of Houston in general, IE: the media frequently skips over Houston for smaller-markets to report on. Don't beleive me? Read your Sports Illustrated. Is Houston reported on like its the 4th largest city in the United States? Not a chance...
Man I just looked at those rankings and I'm furious. Two teams with worse records than ours are ahead of us...I know power rankings aren't standings or anything, but come on, teams win and lose games for a reason... Read this about the Timberwolves, ranked one ahead of us, with a lower win %: "Playing better? Yes. Beating better teams? Not yet. Wolves don't have one win over a team you'd call a playoff lock, but they rise by default." BY DEFAULT?!?!? I'll default you...
Urban agglomeration population is a more accurate figure to look at, and according to that Houston is only #10 - not even as populous as Dallas.
becasue i think they include all those outer suberbs, that really dont belong to the city, outside the voting range. Officially houston is the 4th largest city.
we may be the 4th largest population-wise, but i think we are like the 9th or 10th largest media-wise. dallas by far surpasses us from what i remember.
The "City of Houston" just happens to have rather large city limits. Without that technicality, it's a no-brainer that the Bay Area and DC area have much larger populations and with respect to media markets, much larger local viewerships.
i understand that our record is great and everything, but be careful guys. we haven't beaten anyone yet. i cant think of a single playoff lock team weve beaten. its cool to be optimistic, but don't go thinking we're a top team in the west or even a playoff lock. we're not, not yet at least.
BS...I have heard enough about that. We beat the teams we are supposed to beat( which we had trouble doing last year), and we beat NJ, who if I remember correctly, went to the finals the last two years. All one has to do is look at the way the team is playing more often than not...and it becomes obvious that we are good this year....not finals good, but good nonetheless... Try to be positive for a change.
Without Kenyon Martin. Hardly the same team. Plus they are in the East where the best is a 6 seed at best in the West.
