I mean Yao can't stop Shaq on the game. Hell, it seems like every interior player makes over half of their shots.

You know, it's odd, but it seems like street games are much harder than the normal game. Well, that or it's just really hard to win 4-on-4 against a bunch of legends. Early on I tried playing 4-on-4 street games on All-Star difficulty with KJ, Franchise, 80s Glide, and Dream (created) vs. AI, 90s Glove, 70s Dr. J, and KG, and ******* that **** was hard! I went 1-2 against them. I'll have to try that again... maybe I just hadn't learned the game well enough yet. I hope it's still hard... I've been relishing actually having a tough time against the computer in a game for once.

Anyone notice a few glitches in the game (like the clock keeps running on free throws that draw a lot of iron sometimes and I cannot back down Andre Miller with Yao OR Shaq?)

Yesterday during my franchise i actually got to witness a nice lopsided trade in favor of me. Half way through my season i got an offer.

Clippers were sending me Shaun Livingston and a 2nd Round pick for Charlie Ward....of course i took the trade....didn't think he was that valuable to get so much for him....i guess trades can never be fixed completly right on the game but other than that the game rocks.

Yeah, I noticed the back down problem when I had KG attempting to back down Tony Parker. Tony was holding his own, not moving an inch.

That's very wierd becuase i back down people all the time and the move them back. I use Yao all the time and if you hold turbo and back them down at the same time it slowly moves the defender back and then you can do a nice lay in or a hook shot or even a turn around.

Only thing i don't like is how easy it is to get blocked when you do a turn around. I mean with Yao everytime i did a turn around i got blocked 90% of the time. That's the only part i didn't like so far but other than that i am able to back down anyone even other centers.

Well...I played the game alot over the weekend, mostly Friday and Saturday. I have to say I am liking Live way more than ESPN. The trademark animations for ESPN are in there. I really don't like them as they seem to be way too long and take away control from you until it is over. In my mind that creates sluggish control. I feel the game to star-based. Meaning if you have a super star on the floor, he will have a perfect game, regardless if they are double-teamed.

I also don't like the Rubberband AI. I was playing online against the Knicks and was up by 17 in the 4th. Then my team magically starts missing layups, jump shots, even dunks. While the Knicks go on a 15-3 run by shooting 5 straight 3s, two of them from half court. I think ESPN will get more copies sold because of the price and the extra modes. But after about 20 games with each, I would say Live is the better gameplay experience.

As far as the backing down thing, if it is another big man, then I have a chance to back him down. But if it is a smaller man, then it is like trying to move a mountain.

Stack, when are you up for some Madden online?

I played my first season game with the Rockets, and the results were kinda realistic. Yao missed a lot of easy lay-ups that he should have dunked. He still scored over 35 on 15-30. 10 blocks for Ming is a little bs though...

    T-Mac had 25 and 7 (boards). He can't be stopped 1-1.

Mutombo controlled the lane in his brief minutes. I actually made my game-winning run with him and Yao in the floor (okay, unrealistic).

The trio of PG's sold me up the river. Besides Sura, they are practically worthless. The only thing they are good for is to constantly try to steal the ball from the opposing PG because you know you have 18 fouls to give up.

Pistons were kicking my butt for 3 quarters, but I took control in the 4th and won by 5.

I'm still trying to remember how to put the great players on a roster. Bird is the damn man!!!!

I usually don't have time to back a defender down because the CPU will rip me (at least the Pistons did).

    The step-by-step process:

    1. Trade any player from one of the regular rosters (it doesn't really matter which one, but let's say Reece Gaines) for the retro player you want (say Larry Bird).

    2. Create a team of 13 or more players, and make sure Bird is on the roster. It doesn't matter who the other 12 are. Heck, it could just be a team of 13 Birds.

    3. Release the Bird that's on your created team into the free agent list.

    4. Delete your created team.

    5. Trade the Bird that's on the Rockets back to the 80s East team for Reece Gaines.

Voila, Bird is in the free agent list on your otherwise standard roster. :)

One thing to note: when trading players during this process, you might want to find players with matching jersey numbers. There's an off chance that you would, say, trade Wilt Chamberlain onto the Magic's roster for Steve Francis, and Wilt's jersey # would be automatically randomized, because Kelvin Cato already wears #13, and there can't be two of the same jersey # on one team. This happened to me a few times last year... I ended up with KJ wearing #10 and Pippen wearing #24 or some crap like that.

I play on All-Star at the moment, but I haven't gotten to play it as much as I want yet... I'll probably move to Superstar in the next week or so; All-Star is just beginning to get sorta easy.

Stack, try using the drop step (by pressing Y on Xbox) while backing someone. This is really effective if you are backing someone in the baseline. You can either spin past the defender for the lay up or turn around and shoot a hook. I like to do those fakes after the drop step (tap the shoot button before shooting) and then turn a hook. Really effective and it works about 80% of the time if you have good position.

Thanks, but how do you get past step #1 (trading a player from a retro team to a regular team)? Do you mean a created player or something?

Ah... you're not reading carefully enough. ;)

It's not possible to trade one of the retro players onto a standard roster... as you know if you try to select one, you only get the "edit" option. You need to trade a current player onto a retro team, NOT trade a retro player onto a current team. That is, you must select the current player first, and then the retro teams will be at the bottom of the list of teams available to trade him to.

    Bump...

Does anyone know where I can find some realistic slider settings? Last year someone posted some settings that were very realistic and I played with them all year.
