I received a special offer in the mail for ESPN Mobile service the other day. I assume I received this because of my ongoing subscription to ESPN Insider. Anyway, they are offering me the phone for free and a month of the free multimedia package ($24.99 a month) as well as the plan of my choice. I am giving this serious consideration because I am about sick of Cingular's service and my friend has said some really good things about Sprint's service, which is what ESPN Mobile is based off of is what I am told. So, does anybody have or know anbody that currently uses this service? What are some pros and cons? The multimedia package, which I consider expensive turns out to be something that is optional and not a must have with the service which I thought it was so that is a plus. Do they offer any family plans at all where you can add extra phones to the account? If nobody knows any of this info, do you know some good websites that offer reviews? That means that if u activate your phone on July 15th, your first bill will be for July 15th - 31st (prorated on your monthly fee) and August 1-30th (since they bill in advance). Don't know anybody who actually has the service, but it seems like a waste. So bill in advance, is it basically a pre-paid service? Another thing that seems funny is that as of June 2006, the service has less than 10,000 subscribers. What if this goes under, will I be left without a cellphone or would another company pick it up?
really really suprising, I dunno who's genius idea that was....unless your an absolute no life sports freak junkie or bookie, there is no need for that POS
They're powered by Sprint, so if they go under, I'm sure you'll be switched over to normal Sprint service.
That's what I figured. I am probably going to call sometime in July and switch my carrier, the offer I got in the mail doesn't expire until July 31, 2006 so I have a month. They just got those fake RAZRs too so I might upgrade to that.

I was just talking with a friend about this espn phone crap - he got totally ripped. His phone had a gig of memory so they would send him these 'video sports updates' all the time. You know sports center type blurbs -- so along with his 75-dollar plan he would get hit with these bandwidth charges. He couldn't ever get them turned off so his bill would jump to 150-200 dollars a month. They wouldn't square the bill with him, got up to $900 bucks so he had to walk. Huge time consuming hassle.
that's what this whole mobile espn thing sounds like to me. i have a sprint phone and it's good, but they charge for all types of stupid crap. you sign up for a $45 plan, no internet, 200-300 anyone, anytime minutes, expect another $10+ in charges. i can't imagine having the espn service which is an extra $40 (i'm guessing) a month. then you are going to have like the man said, "bandwith" charges and probably all types of other internet and service charges. added up you could probably just add about $60 every month to your phone bill for what? scores you can check on the internet or tv when you get home? it's just dumb. save your money.
OK, well I just received and activated my telephone today from Mobile ESPN. It seems pretty cool so far although I haven't found out how to utilize all its features just yet but I will play with it more over the week. I need to upgrade the size of my memory card so that I can use my phone as a MP3 player as well. The plan doesn't seem bad to me either. I get 400 anytime minutes, free nights and weekends, all the basic features such as caller id, call waiting etc. for $39.99 a month. I got the Total Sports Package feature (free for 1 month) for $24.99 a month and I get all the sports stuff with that plus 200 text messages and free wireless internet. I also added on nights and weekends starting at 7 PM for another $6.99. When added up and all taxes and fees are added my bill will be a little under $80 which isn't that much more than my 400 minute plan I had with Cingular and I didn't get any of the other features I had before. After I have had it for a week or 2 I will post an actual review.
