Why is nobody even considering this guy? I wouldn't be shocked if he gets maxed out with this insane FA market. Seriously, I haven't even heard that he's been in discussions with anybody. What's going on, he avg. 12 and 12 last year. He might be old, but he's better than Foyle and Cardinal.
I think everyone believes that the Grizzlies will do a S&T with the Warriors for him. I dont see Dampier going back to the Warriors with the money they already tied up in Foyle.
It's funny that now 12 and 12 are upper-echelon center numbers. What do you think a Wilt Chamberlain averaging 50ppg would be making today? They'd have to sign over ownership of the team. j
Hmm. Maybe we can get in on this. If Dampier gets a contract starting at about $9-10 million or more then he becomes a Base Year Compensation player. Then they would need a third team to soak up salaries, just like last year's Brad Miller deal with SA getting Turkaglu and Mercer for free. Maybe something like this: Dampier to Memphis Swift to GS Earl Watson and Big Jake or Bo Outaw to Houston
Well he's dead so i wouldn't even expect a double double out of him but considering the dearth of centers in the league right now, who exactly is going to stop Wilt in his prime? And 35 ppg is more than any center has scored since maybe he did it in the 60's, so it still makes him worth signing your franchise to by todays standards. j
Even a 17.5/9 center in Yao is double or triple-teamed even without ball today. Zone defense simply lessens individual dominance to a great degree. Unless you are as strong and heavy as Shaq, chances are you can be contained by the two or three bodies thrown to you.
And If you're able to just stand there being triple teamed while the rest of your team plays 4 on 2 and your team wins, you're still earning your money. j
