"Agent Aaron Goodwin confirmed Tuesday that he is still in contract talks with the Cavaliers about client Vin Baker. Mark Bartelstein, who represents Cavaliers free agent Eric Williams, said he's still in talks with several teams about sign-and-trade deals. According to sources, Indiana, New Jersey, Houston and Boston have interest in Williams."

I think Eric Williams is a JVG Guy.......

He knows defense and can shoot 3s.

    Bring him in this team!!!!

I'm stumped. Don't we already have JJ, Boki, Pike, Gaines & Griffin who all can play SF? Is this just another way the Rockets trying to get a backup center? MoT for Diop & Williams or something?

I'm not stumped. JJ is getting old and needs to play less minutes. Pike is a bust and would possibly be involved in the trade since we know the Cavs are very interested in him. Boki hasn't earned JVG's trust yet and I don't know that JVG is ready to commit big minutes to him. Gaines plays point guard and shooting guard but is apparently more of a point guard. I'd love for this to go down. I love Eric Williams.

You say JJ is getting old but Williams is 32 yrs. old. He's no spring chicken.

Good locker room presence, pretty good defender, has somewhat of a decent post game, can guard the 3 or 4 depending on matcups. His shooting is pretty erratic, but if we can get him for around half the MLE or less I would try to sign him. I would is the type of player JVG is looking for.

He lost his shot after going to the Cavs last year, but a winning situation could cure that.

If we signed him we could have a pretty big lineup which could cover for the lost of defense when Cato was traded.

    Yao/FA
    Howard/MoT/Spoon
    Williams/JJ/Boki
    Tmac/JJ/Pike
    Lue/Gaines

If Gaines can prove his rookie season was a fluke and is able to become a starter we could have one of the biggest lineups. Even though we would be defensively a good team, the loss of JJ in the starting lineup would greatly reduce our 3pt shooting. Lue and Tmac would be the only shooters we would have in the starting lineup.

Right but I'm not advocating Williams as his successor, merely someone to take some of the burden off of JJ. They can share the minutes.

Eric Williams have palyed for Celtics, under Obie's system.

I think he plays defense and he is taller than JJ.

Since JJ is short and getting older, it is important to find some1 to fill this hole in rox.

Sigh Williams with 4 million dollar for 3 years is good.

Got ya. I'm not arguing against him, he is a nice player, I just hope there is alot more to it in terms of filling another hole or holes on the roster with the trade. I guess I dont see the point when we already have a defensive-minded forward in Griffin and have other guys that could come in certain situations to spell JJ (Pike & Nachbar).

I was in horror when reports of the Mobley/Griffin/Boki for Battie/Williams deal surfaced, but that's only because I thought Mobley and Griffin had greater value. Williams would be a great fit in Houston if he can come cheap. He's a horrible outside shooter, but big, strong, physical, a tenacious defender, and very good in the low post. Also a great character guy from what I've read. Platooning the imposing physical presences of he and Jimmy Jackson at the 3 will really keep teams from trying to beat McGrady up with their small forwards.

I doubt that the Cavs would trade Williams for Pike but I would do it.

Eric Williams used to play in Boston.

Three point shooting isn't the greatest... but he never took that many. Unlike the rest of the Celtics.

Boston had tenacious defenders... Williams, Battie, Pierce, etc... that's the only reason they won games. Because otherwise the offense is UG-LY... if you thought the Rockets offense stunk... well...

I'm honestly giddy at the prospect of that platoon. Those are two hard working, hard nosed vets. Great roleplayers. As far as bargain players go Eric Williams, Trenton Hassell and for a bit more money, Bruce Bowen are probably the small forwards that would be on the top of my list (along with Jim Jackson of course).

Williams is an unrestricted free agent so we dont have to trade anything to try to sign him. Unless teams are going to offer him more then the MLE there is no need for a sign and trade.

The signing of Williams is to supplement JJ not replace him due to JJs increasing age and height for a SF. they would make a very good combo at the SF position. If willaims is signed Boki will be pushed farther down the depth chart, but I hope he recieves at least 15 minutes of consistant playing time this year.

Hopefully we could have a crushing defense with an efficient offense next year, somewhat like the spurs, but with a little more flair with yao and Tmac.
