What is the deal with Pike. Is he is the doghouse or just not worthy of getting playing time. I have not been on the forum in awhile so this has probably been brought up. I think we signed him for 2-3 years, was it wasted money or will he eventually get some pt?
His shot has left him. Since his shooting was the entirety of his game, he won't get any PT until his shot returns.
Exactly! Honestly it really is a shame his shot has been off. I had high hopes that he would be a solid guy off the bench. What is frightening is that JVG probably had him penciled in as the starting SF (or at least would play big minutes in our rotation) before we made the Glen Rice deal that paved the way for the Jim Jackson signing. Not sure what Pike's problem is, he had a solid career in LA and probably had a lot worse looks at the basket in LA than he does here, yet for some reason he cant hit the jumper here in Houston. I mean, it is one thing if you are new to the league like Nachbar (and back in the day, Dave Jamerson...shudder!), but to be a 9 year vet with a proven track record of good shooting, to all of a sudden go cold. Yikes!
He's young enough, that he still could get his shot back. Maybe soon. Maybe this summer, and maybe he could contribute next year. Otherwise, he could be a prime candidate, along with Spoon, for the "unprotected" expansion list.
his form is really really odd. But usually the ones with the weird form can shoot lights out(ei: Peja)
Bill and Calvin were just saying how pike teamates were talkin about how he comes in an hour earlier and leaves latter for practice and works really hard in order to try to get some playing time. Poor guy.
Now that Yao is unstoppable in the one-on-one, with his confidence sky-high... expect more teams to start doubling him. When that happens, they'll need all the three-point shooters they can muster. Expect this to happen often in the playoffs, where it will be a half-court game of dump it into Yao. They will only use him in stretches, however... as his defense is FAR from Van Gundy acceptable...
What happend to Eric. He didn't play in tonight's game against the wizard. If im not mistaken, he's the only player who didn't get a playtime. What's going on?
He must have cursed out Van Gundy or something. How is expected to come into a live game and shoot 3 pointers if he can't get playing time at all in blowouts?
iam seeing the same thing this has to be a slap in the face to pike.I think we should trade him if were not gonna use the guy at all.iam sure someone would give us something we could use for him .
In the Atlanta game I went to he was already shooting when I got to my seat well over an hour before the game. He worked up a good sweat! It really dawned on me then, that for the end of the bench guys, those before game shoot arounds are very important to keep them from getting rusty since more likely than not they wont get into the game.
Deuce, Exactly what I was thinking. A 9 year veteran known for being a marksman doesn't suddenly lose it. JVG puts so much emphasis on defense, and Pike has been a defensive liability; ergo, no PT. After the opposition 3's lit him up, he got benched time after time earlier this season. That's one of the things that prompted the Spoon deal at a time when AGrif was not available. Here's hoping he can get out of the dog house & work his way back into the rotation. D R
