why not instead of just letting them go did we not try to get something back? a second rd pick, someone,i still think we should of got thorpe back after title #2,he was a free agent and fled to detroit..... your thoughts?
for elie.. i thought he was going to sign with us but then hechanged his mind and sold us out, and went to the spurs cuz of avery johnson luring him in
vernon maxwell had some problems.. i think it was good letting him go to give him time to situate himself.. kenny.... i thought he retired i dunno
Man... who knew the day would come when these guys would be considered the "old" rockets... man. Anyways, Elie left because he never got over the fact that the Rockets tried to trade him for Damon Stoudamire during the 1998 season (which WOULD have made a major difference that year... and for the years to come). Max never played another game for the team after his outburst after game 1 of the first round 1995 playoff series against the Jazz... he never adjusted to having his minutes and his starting job taken away by Clyde, and it obviously pissed him off. Kenny was very up and down in his final year with the Rockets (96)... at one point, he was coming off the bench behind Eldrige Recasner and Sam Cassell. His time was up... and everybody knew it... and he calmly faded away (and came out of nowhere to become a top-notch analyst on the best studio show in sports).
vernon maxwell went to the Sixers and helped mold a young Iverson to the emotional and clutch MVP player in the NBA. Vernon Maxwell. More of Rocket than Clyde was.
I actually agree with you here, but your argument loses a little steam since we all know you think Max was more of a Rocket (and more of an NBA player) than ANYONE ever was. Nick's right. Elie had a serious grudge from that busted trade. He wasn't ever coming back as a player. Didn't have anything to do with Avery. He would have played anywhere but here. He was hella pissed.
Vernon and Mario were both emotional guys, so they were pretty bitter about leaving the Rockets or losing their starting job. They had PRIDE. Which was a great strength and weakness. Does Mo Taylor have pride?
I think Mo does have pride and I think that's why he's in JVG's doghouse. Does he have pride like Max and Mario did? Hell, no. Who does?
It amazes me how you go to great lengths to prop up Vernon Maxell. Even giving him credit for something he had nothing to do with.
hey codell, let me BOOM YOU . http://espn.go.com/nba/columns/stein/1132286.html how does it feel getting boomed on? please learn your ROCKETS AND NBA HISTORY BEFORE YOU CHALLENGE TINMAN.
And that answers the question how? To recap 1.) Iverson and Brown can coexist 2.) I'm still steamed about getting released I must have missed the part that said Maxwell molded Iverson into the mvp that he is.
I missed it too. According to Tinman though, Maxwell did wonders in the 24 games that he was with Phllly. Well enough that he was released to make room for Kevin Ollie. lol
nice read does anyone remember the full details of the trade players and why we balked out or who balked at the deal I don't quite remember the full details.
Vernon Maxwell is very underrated from our 2005 perch. Watch some old games when they come on NBA classic. Ellie was essentially finished after he shattered his wrist after a criminally cheap shot (by a Denver player?). He came back but was never a good shooter again. How about Mario Ellie leaving the Spurs coaching job to take one with Golden State to help prepare him as a h Head Coach? He wanted experiance with a bad team.
Jalen Rose (then of the Nugs) was the one with the cheap shot on Mario. Kenny's shot up and left him one day, dunno why. He wasn't really old, and he'd always been a good percentage guy. He couldn't land anything after the Rockets, although he was in camp with the Nets the next season (as a backup to Cassell).
