i was wondering if anyone has seen this gus van sant picture? i was a little annoyed by the camera but i thought it was pretty engulfing. i sort of came to after the end and realized my hands were sweating. maybe because im 20 and still remember high school. just wondering
It's probably one of my favorite movies, I bought it when it was first released on DVD and watched it multiple times since. I liked the movie overall because it tells so little. The walking scenes got most people annoyed and bored, but I liked them because Elephant is a movie that is made for you to think. The movie has scenes that are confusing where you lead to your own conclusions... Benny (the sole black kid).. the shower scene... who was shot... how did it end...Michelle (the awkward girl at gym)... I've read the imdb.com boards on it and people complain about the acting being bad due to the unexperienced actors, but I liked Van Sant's casting choice of the unknown kids who (with expection to one) all had no prior acting experience. I didn't notice any acting that I fealt was "bad", but I am probably not a good judge of acting. The only part that I didn't like particularly was the gun being mailed to their home to the teens, because that isn't legal and hasn't been the case in prior shootings. So those of you who have seen the movie, did you like it ? (meaning would you watch it again)
a friend of mine is coming over to watch that movie tomorrow night, but I'm a little dubious. Not exactly the sort of flick I'm used to watching before a night of necking. I suggested "Fish Called Wanda," but, alas ...
An interesting movie. I would call the acting in it bad; however, if I remember correctly most of it was impromptu.
I thought that by using first time actors Van Sant captured the realism of dialogue he was looking for to depict a modern american high school. I find it refreshing and new.
http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=27164 Wow, I was looking thru some of Holden's old threads....that was one really depressed dude.
Thanks for the link, Behad. Leave it to DREAMer to have to argue about this thing, lol. Too bad he felt he could do ridiculous arguments with everyone here. Anyone remember his thread in the NBA Dish forum where he would list people that had worst shooting percentages than Hakeem did in some game? It was something like that, but boy was that thread a sad one, even sadder than my top 100 posters.
Elephant was a really good flick. If you think the acting is bad, it's because it is. None of the people in the movie are highly trained. I think it gives the movie a different feel that I thought was nice for a subject such as this.
behad. thanks.. I could'nt remember who was the one who started that thread... holden.. that's a name I havent seen in ages
