We have a mouse/rat in our apartment and I have used every kind of trap available in your common supermarket to try and get rid of this little b*stard. He is making a habit of tearing out out shards of our carpet for some reason. He has gotten into our cupboard and gotten into our sugar/flour/and chip bags. The only thing I haven't tried is those electronice rodent repellers they sell in supermarkets. They are more expensive than the aforementioned methods, but I am desperate. Does anyone have any experience with these things? Do they work worth a damn?
Have you tried D-Con yet? It has worked well for me in the past. The electronic one's work OK at first but they get used to it after a while. What ever you do you after it is gone or killed you need to find the nest and get rid of it and then clean the whole area. Other rodents will smell the remains of the previous occupant and think it is good area to settle down. Also try and find out where it got in and fill the hole(s) with steel wool. Rodents will chew through just about anything else if they want to get in somewhere, but steel wool leaves metal splinters in their mouth. This annoys them enough that they stop trying to get in.
I have used an electronic pest repeller. It had NO effect... the damn rat, still came by for a visit... The most effective traps I have used have been glue traps. I have also caught rats using a live/humane trap... then relocated them to the bayou.
What do you do with them after you catch them in a glue trap. Smash em with a shovel? You can't let em go free cause they are sure as hell gonna bite you when try to free em.
No, you throw them away and let them die in the garbage can. Smashing them with a shovel is really messy and who would want to clean up that mess. Yuck! It only takes a couple of days for them to die of starvation and dehydration in the garbage can, unless of course they find an old PB&J crust or maybe an old tampon to chew on. Then it may take a little longer.
