Who knows - he must have been busy forging ballots on behalf of Kerry. I imagine he gave up in the early hours of the morning. Michael Moore needs to use some of that ill-gotten money from his slanderous movie to go on a power diet.
I'm not really into the politics, but I am a little bummed and I was hoping for a change. I wonder how many more wars god will tell Bush to initiate. Let's hope it's a lot.
All I can say is I hope that Bush can make a real change from all of the mistakes he made last term. Our country has lost honor, respect, and moved away from of the values that make this country great during Bush's first term. I hope and pray that the second term won't take us further down the same path.
After another down-to-the-wire election, it continues to remain clear that a viable third party would mop the floor with guys like Bush and Kerry. What happened in Houston with the mayoral race last year was a microcasm of American politics. Since Bob Lanier, it had been a dogfight between political opposites. Lee Brown won all those battles, but it took incredible mobilization of the minority communities to do it. He barely squeaked out a win against Orlando Sanchez in 2001. Sanchez had little experience and was way to the right of the political spectrum. Enter Bill White. White is clearly a political centerist. He believes in lower taxes and fiscal responsibility but not at the expense of basic services, relief for those less fortunate and improving the quality of life for Houstonians. He works with the business community, but doesn't give them a free pass. He is very clear in his stated objectives and he tells it EXACTLY like he believes it is. And the guy is about as charasmatic as a tree stump, but he won going away because he appealed to a broad coalition of both democrats and republicans with his policies. Imagine McCain/Powell. Both VERY moderate republicans with military records. They have almost ZERO appeal to the far right of their party, but they would get a crapload of votes. If you took politicians at the left of the GOP and the right of the Dems, you could produce a formiddable roster of candidates for a third party that could lay waste to our current "choices." Probably won't happen, but it is nice to dream.
Wow, look at a map of the country and who won which states. http://www.cnn.com/ Thats ALOT of big red states folks. Think about it. Hey, I'm just sayin'...........
That is such total BS. Lost honor from who: Osama? France? Germany? This GREAT country GAINED honor and respect by voting like we did last night. GOD BLESS THE USA!
Mop the floor? Bush got over 58 million votes. The voters seem to be quite happy with his positioning on the political spectrum.
Ourselves. Killing thousands and thousands because of "faulty intelligence" is nothing to be proud of. But I guess god said "go for it", so party on dude! ok this is my last post here. god bless...
The system is biased towards the two-party system. Only people with an ideology to trumpet (Nader) or more money than god (Perot) have the desire to run as a third party candidate. McCain or Powell would be better off running for a party nomination if they want a legitimate shot at the white house. Ironically, Powell or McCain would have mopped the floor with Kerry, imo. And Bill Clinton (term limits excluded) would have killed them all. We wouldn't be talking 52% to 48% or whatever the national turnout is. Kerry was really a poor candidate, and it's a testament to the state of the Democratic party that he was the best they could come up with. Anyway, I'm proud of the American people for at least turning up and voting in unprecedented numbers. This election has brought people into the political process in great numbers, and that's been a definite positive to come out of this.
welcome to 1984 folks we have taken a huge step backwards today in America - back to where it is okay to discriminate, okay to be intolerant, and okay to be ignorant the fact that people like DeMint and Colborn could be elected to the US Senate speaks for itself
So Bush finally wins the popular vote, but all of the sudden that's irrelevant because nation is stupid? Come on now. I hope both sides do a better job of coming together these next four years.
It may be BS in how you judge honor, but it's not in the way I judge honor. The honor we lost is our own, and not related to Osama, France or Germany. We lost honor, because our President started a war against a country that wasn't a threat to us. The rationale leading up to the war was wrong, but rather then saying it was wrong but some good will still come out of this, our President pretended that the original reasons stated for going to war weren't really the reasons at all. Once he made the decision to go to war, the government gave away contracts to cronies rather than have fair bidding(currently under criminal investigation). The president isn't directly responsible for our troops torturing, and raping prisoners in Iraq, but he is responsible for not holding someone high up accountable for it. The President lost personal honor by injecting divisive issues into the election for pure political purposes with the idea of changing the constitution to ban gay marriage, talking about the values of Hollywood as being the values of the Democratic party etc. He was supposed to be a uniter and not a divider. He's supposed to be the President of everybody, and instead derides a percentage of our population, and uses the state of Mass in a derogatory matter. He's supposed to be President of all 50 states and everyone in it. The president lost honor when he did nothing despite the fact that somebody in his administration that he gave top security clearance to, committed a felony, and possibly hurt our war on terror by exposing an intel agent who was currently active in gathering intelligence for out country. He lost honor when his administration leaked the name of possibly the best doubt agent situation imaginable. We had a former Al-Qaeda operative who was still getting e-mails from Al-Qaeda leadership about operations, and sharing them with our govt. Those of course stopped whtn the administration leaked the man's name. Mostly our country had been honorable because of a tradition of wanting to help and spread democracy. We never carried it out perfectly but it was a goal. This president's attempt to spread democracy was at the barrel of a gun, and that is a shameful way to portray democracy and freedom. It was also shameful when this President's admnistration changed scientific reports about the health risks after the collapse of the WTC. That put rescue workers, and others in more risk. Changing, rewording, and leaving out important information leaving those brave people to suffer the consequences caused him to lose honor. We lost respect from allies including France and Germany, and the world at large. Even Poland admits that the President took everyone for a ride when it came to WMD and Iraq. France was willing to put troops in harms way for the U.S. after 9/11. They did so flying the second most combat missions in AFghanistan. More than Great Britain or anyone other than the U.S. Germany is a valuable ally in the war on terror, where some of the 9/11 hi-jackers were known to have connections. Those are the kinds of allies we need in the war on terror. France and Germany are not dirty words, or enemies of the U.S. We lost respect because the President and his administration didn't treat others with respect. This is war the honor does tie in. If he had conducted himself with honor we would have held onto respect. In 2000 Bush said that his role model was Jesus Christ. I can't imagine Jesus Christ adopting a policy of pre-emption, and no-bid contracts. You may not see truth, ideals, values, and principles as being tied to honor but I do. I'm not saying it's unforgivable to make a mistake. It is unforgivable to make a mistake, not admit it, and not try and correct it. Whatever criteria you use to judge honor by is up to you, but you don't have a right to call my criteria BS. Or maybe that's part of what you see as ok. If people have different ideas or opinions it's ok to call them BS. I just believe in individual freedom and right to have different opinions.
America spoke loud and clear yesterday on what they want. We voted on values and security. Just because many on our side our silent (we don't litter our yards with signs, organize huge protests) it was apparent yesterday on what American as a whole values. if you don't like it? a couple words - "you'll adjust"
You are 30 years ahead of yourself. Welcome to 1954. By the time Bush is done with his 2nd term, we will all be driving Studebakers, our women will all be wearing poodle skirts, and the most popular TV show in America will be Ozzie and Harriet.
Agreed. I hope and pray Bush now that he doesn't have to worry about re-election will try to be a bit more moderate in his blatant discrimination towards gays and tone down this predication of his policies based on religion. If not we are regressing as a society and as a nation. As to the mention of candidates for 08. I'd love to see McCain on the ballot he is probably the only Republican I'd vote for and if was on the ballot instead of Bush this time I may have voted for him over Kerry.
Yeah, and Kerry got 54 million. Nearly as many voters seem quite happy with his positioning on the political spectrum as well. What's your point? Almost 300 million people in America and a little over one percent of those people decided this election. That is the absolute definition of evenly divided.
Hit the tip jar and you can edit out your boo-boos. You've gotten 8 years of use out of this place so far.
