I saw that man...me and my roommate were watching and we both just got up and left the room when that happened. I haven't seen ANYONE jump that high...
You must have not seen Clyde at that age... On a NBATV interview he said he could touch the top of the backboard no problem..
You must have not seen Clyde at that age... 6/22/62 + 20 years = 1982 Well, I don't believe I could see out of my father's....let's just end it at that.... <---Born in 84. I've seen plenty of Clyde stuff before, and it's great and all, but being able to see a high flyer every night on Sportscenter...that's awesome. I'm all about nostalgic highflyers. I love Clyde, Dr J, Nance, Jordan (I still have to find a clip of one dunk he tried to do in his first game...god it was amazing...too bad he missed the rim by like an inch)
Vince Carter jumping over Weis in the Olympics has to be up there too...but Lebron's dunk was ridiculous.
You know, at that angle, if I stood over at the Cavs bench, jumped up in the air with my 20 inch vert...it would seem as if I was looking down into the rim, too.
What's nasty about that dunk is the fact that Lebron is about the same size as Dream or Karl Malone in their younger years. The dude is close to 6'10" and weighs over 240.
I think the angle does enhance the dunk a bit, but c'mon guys. Steve smith is what? 6'8, Im 5'9" and my waist is at about 3.5 feet so lets say 42 inches. Even though Steve smith is a foot taller than me, lets be generous and say Steves waist is 4'4 inches high (52 inches).. (only 8 inches higher than me, even though hes a foot taller). Lebron feet are up near Steves waist. lets make another subtraction since lebrons knees are bent and his feet are cocked. So lets subtract 8 inches (also generous) bringing his jump height to 3 ft 4 inches or 40 inches. at 6'9" let be generous and say Lebrons reach is only 1 ft above his head. (meaning his arm is extended upwards) Now im 5'8 and I can touch 7'5. (almost 2 feet). So were assuming Lebron is a T-rex like Yao So 6'9 + 1 ft reach = 7'9 + 3ft 4 inches= 12 ft 1 inch. So at this GENEROUS estimate, lebrons arm is about 2 ft 1 inch above the goal, putting him above the Square on the glass. If we arent generous, I would estimate he was closer to 3 ft above the rim.
Don't know if this makes a difference to an insane athlete like Lebron, but he also jumped off his left leg! Being right handed, (which I think he is), wouldn't it be more natural to use that dominant leg?
DAMN!!!!!!! Look how far he up from the ground. Forget about his hand but the ground n his foot are far apart so it cant just be the angle.
No it makes sense to jump off his left leg from the way he was coming in I think judging from his stride. He got up really high but I think the angle in which that was shot make it look a lot better than it was. Of course its ridiculous either way, but at least in my book it falls just short of ludicrous. oh yeah 700 posts yay and it only took me nearly 3 years to do it!
If you are right handed, in basketball your jumping leg is the left leg. Still pretty impressive because guys like JRich, and I think Francis to an extent are excellent 2 leg jumpers, but they aren't as good off one leg.
on the one hand, the angle exaggerates the height. on the other, every dunk we see on that end of the court is shown at that angle, and i sure can't remember one where the guy's arm looked that high. that's ridiculous. and it's ridiculous how easy he can dunk. he's got explosion that no one can match. he can come down on a fastbreak in traffic and easily dunk from 10 feet out b/c he's 6'8 and gets up so high and so smoothly. he's just a beast. everyday he impresses me a little bit more.
most people who are right handed jump from their left leg. So it doesn't make a differance, but still this dunkis sick
Nice dunk, but... James "Flight" White (cousin? nephew? of Rodney White of the Denver Nuggets) can do that same dunk, except from the free throw line, maybe even getting up a little bit higher. Unfortunately, for now, that's all there is to White's game. Not anywhere close to the type of player LeBron is.
