Does Eddie Griffin have any trade value anymore? Do any teams still want him??? After a disappointing season with not much improvement...and getting caught with possession of mar1juana......Do teams still want him??? Does anybody know?
If he does have any trade value which I voted he does is because he's young and teams still think he has potential. Thats the ONLY reason why!
Define athletic. He's a good shotblocker, but that is more of a product of timing, than flat out running and jumping skills. 6 ft 10 "athletic" players who stay 25 ft from the basket are not a hot commodity.
6'9'', young & shows great potential, with the right players to help him and guide him he might even be a first class NBA player. Not on the Rockets without personal changes and team changes. Needs another two years of development!
Yeah, but the question wasn't, "does he have trade potential." It was "does he have as much as before?" I don't think so. I think that if people from two years ago had a crystal ball and could see how he's played over the past two years, his position in the draft wouldn't have been nearly as high as it was. -- droxford
Not nearly as much as he had, or as high as his potential, which is why we should keep him, IMO. Teams are looking for us to make an impatient move with him..we trade him we get back what? A mid first rounder? A decent role player at best...We keep him, we might not get much, but we might get the perfect compliment to Yao.
Eddie has plenty of upside and I'm sure someone would love to the opportunity to pick him up. He's probably not as valuable as he was but stands to improve greatly in a system that will utilize him properly. As for the hippie lettuce incident, well, we are talking about the Nationa Blunt Association. It shouldn't be too much of a problem as long as he brings enough for everyone.
I think we should trade him. He's going to be pretty good in 2 years, but we want to win sooner than that. Succesful teams have their players hit their prime simultaneously. I think that Francis will have his best season in 2004/2005, which is why it's time to get players to win NOW. Packaging Eddie with Mobley, Rice and/or Cato would look good to TONS of teams. However, if we could somehow unload Mo T first, that would be a better option.
I must say . . . I blame Rudy for this Horry, KT, now Griff . . . Power fowards flailing threes all NILLY-WILLY We b*tch about it with KT and now EG is doing the same d*mn thing I'm surprised MO ain't out there Rocket River
There are always takers in this market who think they can get soemthing out of that potential. Look how long it took the "p" word to come off Elden Campbell. People are still talking about Larry Hughes and Tim Thomas and they're in their 5th and 6th yr. Sometimes , players who are not hard workers will never get it. When GSW traded Jamison for Carter, everyone looked at them crazy, but when they did the background check at UNC, everyone in the staff said Jamison was the harder worker. In fact they said he was a extremely hard worker. Thats why even though Jamison had surgery, he bounced back to have a couple of good season. When trying to gauge young players, you always want to see if they are willing to sell out to be the best. Personally, I don't think Eddie has that desire, but I could be wrong. We'll see this summer.
I'm still wondering where the hell this supposed "upside" is. Eddie hasn't shown ANY flashes of brilliance in his two years. Usually with young players who have potential, they tease you with brilliance here and there in a game, but just can't consistently do it. EG has shown nothing, other than a propensity to miss outside jumpers. EG will be a good shot blocker, and maybe a decent rebounder, but he has absolutely no offensive game, or any hint of one. He's not an athletic freak like Stoudemire, therefore he can't really get away with not having any passing or dribbling skills whatsoever. Nor does he have a post-up game to speak of.
I'm as down on EG as everyone but there were a few games where EG showed up with energy and just dominated like the Atlanta game where he had 16 rebounds. EG just doesn't have the strength yet to bang day in and day out over an 82 game season. I think he will get there. I'm just not sure if I'm patient enough to wait.
I think the Rockets' souring reputation around the league would actually help us trade Griffin. I believe many a GM would look at the situation and maybe say "Here's a kid that is playing with a team with no offensive philosophy that has recently done a poor job in developing talent. I'll give him a chance."
