im new to all this, and after being stupid and not reading the whole thing, i found out i bidded on what supposedly was an ipod but really "information for getting a free ipod". I didn't have to input my credit card info, but does anyone know the consequences of not paying up? The bid was like $130 and other poeple had bid for it so i thought i was a legit one. Thanks; the bid ends in like half hour and im the highest bidder lol.

The consequences "depend". I've never not paid, and never had someone not pay me, but a lot of times, the seller will just leave you negative feedback and report you to ebay. You probably have some recourse though -- you may be able to retract your bid, or perhaps tell ebay the situation and they might help you out. But I'm mostly a seller, so I'm not completely sure how you go about all of these things.

I don't think there are legal consequences, or if they are, you shouldn't worry about getting arrested or anything.

If you win, I wouldn't pay.

is there a "retract" bid option? You have to give reasoning and but it will let you out of your bid.

Fortunately for you, you are no longer the high bidder. However, I was going to say good luck in trying to get eBay to see your side of the story.

I had an obnoxious jerk file a bogus NPB on me back in the summer of 2003 and it took awhile to get it resolved and in my favor. The problem with eBay is that there is no way you can talk to a human being - everything is automated and is done through email. Very frustrating.

I think you can email the seller, explain your situation and most sellers will let you retract your bid if you are nice about it and the auction isn't right on the deadline.
