I sold something on there recently.

Total price was 350 with shipping. Got tagged 10 bucks from paypal then 25 from ebay in fees. so that is 315 for something that someone was willing to pay 250 for. My fault for not knowing the fees but I could have easily sold it locally for that with much less effort.

Ebay and paypal were great in their first few years of existence. Now they pretty much rob you with their fees.

Your first stop should always your local market. Try craigslist first. Free listing, no shipping, and no worries about paypal charge back. You just have to be a little patient and filter all the spammers.

Your next stop should be a a forum dedicated to whatever you are selling. If you are selling audio stuff, go to some busy forums which discuss audio stuff. They will usually have a "for sale" sub forum. If you are selling computer stuff, go to computer forums and so on....

Only do ebay if you have run out of other options. Not only do you lose chunk of change on fees but you also risk losing all your $$ due to paypal charge back.

Garage sales and pawn shops might do the trick when you figure in shipping and fees otherwise.

I guess you're new to eBay. Standard fees... Craigslist is harder to sell on than eBay... so It pretty much evens itself out.

I agree, eBay was the **** for a while. But like other corporations, they got greedy.

    PayPal is THE WORST.

I left eBay too after practically running a secondary ticket resale & action figure business during college. But I think they have a lot of promos, large % of listing fees? Look into that.

I don't know why people say Paypal is bad. What's wrong with Paypal? I've been with Paypal since it came out... I really haven't encountered any problems. Dealt with one Fraud issue on eBay when the guy didn't send me the item after I paid him on eBay from Paypal, opened a dispute, got my money back within 2 weeks.

Paypal is notorious for ripping the seller a new ******* no matter how much evidence is provided to prove the buyer was at fault.

Ah I see... well I have yet to be in that position. I don't really sell too many things on eBay anymore... though for buying Paypal is awesome.

Try having a paypal account for over 7 years as a seller then suddenly getting your account frozen for a routine check because you have high sales. No negative feedback, and no complaints at all. They grab you by the balls because they think you need them as an eBay seller. The hell with them.
