I agree with that. I enjoyed reading it for a while because quite frankly, David Barron's weekly column on radio/tv isn't enough coverage for a sports radio market as volatile as Houston. Now, though, it's just nothing but sour grapes. He doesn't have anything good to say about anyone seemingly. The editing is terrible. Several misspelled words in each piece. It's really tough to get through one article.
The sky is blue. Grass is green. I refuse to listen to AM610 or 1560. When 790 put this guy on, I quit listening to sports radio in that hour. In fact, this has caused me to stop listening to sports radio at all in the morning, which is a good thing.
I think an alliance should be made between 1560 and 790. Then, John and lance should play a game of bball against MJ and adam. The winner keeps the time slot and the loser goes to night time. That way I can listen to the only good talk shows in town that I like. Many like charlie P. but the guy is like robot. Doesn't do it for me. It's like one never ending soliloquy The only times I tune into 610 now are rox postgame and texans postgame and pregame. (i love self torture)
Took an early lunch and had the dial on 790...Gwynn was talking basketball. Some caller mentioned that he hoped 'Melo got traded sooner so that the Rockets could catch the Nuggets, and Gwynn said that he that the Nuggets could still be just as good with Favors and Devin Harris. I quickly changed the station.
agreed...there's no give and take...except when he's condescending to callers. it's just him...talking. eh.
On the contrary, Charlie seems to be the best about taking as many calls as possible and answering as many texts and e-mails as possible. Plus, he's the most knowledgeable and well-spoken personality on Houston sports radio, so there are far worse things than hearing him talk.
Charlie doesn't strike me as condescending as much as jaded. If you listen to him for a week, by the end of the week, he will have very little patience for callers that don't know what they're talking about. Especially if it is a hot topic that gets beat into the ground (VY, fire Kubiak, Yao Ming, etc)
This guy has no idea what he is talking about when he is talking about the rockets. They need him off the air and back to doing traffic.
I googled this, he wrote his own crappy press release about his internet conservative political radio show. Not sure what year it's from:
How am I supposed to take this guy's sports takes seriously? He completed a scouting and general manager course from Sports Management Worldwide, so you know his opinions are legit.
^^^ That would explain his below average sports knowledge. He's a loudmouth hack that just takes up space. He's basically a troll baiting for an audience to listen. that won't help, that will just confirm he has a listener therefor helping ad revenue
So is he just using 790 to get his voice noticed so that he can become a talking head with a liberal news radio show? I don't get how he ended up in sports. He really is just a guy they stuck behind the mic for no apparent reason.
I didn't think those courses from Sports managent worldwide were legit. I thought they were more like those art brochures that say if you can sketch a bird, then you can make a living as an artist.
I don't get that he's condescending at all, and I feel like he takes the MOST calls out of all the hosts in the city. He's definitely the most intelligent, and can put his thoughts into words the most clearly. His topics are always on point, and his takes are usually spot on. I don't need my sports talk show host to be a cackling buffoon ripe with background music, and stupid time-killing schticks (JOSH INNES). I want someone who will bring truth and knowledge to the discussion without making it painfully obvious that he's just protecting a product (610 in general). I just think that fans in this city are generally low on their knowledge of sports, so they usually bring ridiculous scenarios to the table (i.e. yesterday, some caller said the Texans would be DUMB to not trade up to the #1 spot, contact Andrew Luck, and tell him to enter the draft). I'm sorry, but even the most patient of hosts is going to laugh in that guy's face....and Pallilo has to deal with that on a day in-day out basis.
