I'm not going to say that Dwight is already as good or better than Yao. I haven't seen enough of him recently. I do think he'll be a top 3 center in the league this season -- along with Yao and Shaq. If Shaq slides as much this year as he did last year, than Dwight will be top 2. And, honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if he eventually surpasses Yao in the next few seasons. He doesn't seem to have the same defensive presence (not that Yao is a big-time intimidator or anything), and he's not as sophisticated a scorer. But he's a spectacular finisher around the basket, and he'll probably lead the league in rebounding. I think 20/14 is very doable for him this season.
Hell yeh, datz too much talkin for a preseason game, can't wait to see the rockets show those sports writers.
In 5-6 years Howard will be 25-26. By then, he should be the clear #1 center in the NBA. He's barely scratched the surface of what he could be. His growth from age 20 to age 24 should be huge and "the sky is the limit". His main shortcoming is offensive touch. If he develops that, it won't take 5-6 years to pass Yao IMO.
uh, yeah, d-ho is nothing short of amazing. 6'11 should not be able to move like he does. As far as being better than yao, i'd rather have yao this upcoming season, but in a few years, well, d-ho brings something that yao will never be able to bring, which is mobility. He can play half court and run. Yao can only play half court. Defensively, it's tough, because yao alters so much that doesn't transfer statistically - but Howard, like i said, is mobile, he can move, and the way the nba is moving towards faster play, i like d-ho for the future. But like i said, yao should pretty much dominate this year. Expect d-ho's numbers to be like 18-13. around there, not much of a free throw shooter, but with darko at his side, they'll be tough this year.
Of course. I remember two years ago lots of people made similar comments on Amare. Intreasting. That kid surely got potential, that part I certainly agree. Let's wait and see.
I seriously doubt Howard will be the best center in 3-4 years. 6+ years, maybe, when Yao turns 30+, and that's only if Amare really hurts his knees and can't recover. He will be a monster rebounder, but he will NEVER be as good as Yao on scoring.
Well of course the orlando papers will say howard is better. That's just homerism and happens in all cities.
Howard consistantly airballs hookshots, maybe in about five years when he has developed an offensive game we can compare him to Yao, but by then he'll probaly would have left Orlando for Atlanta. Its crazy how much of an inferiority complex losing a NBA title and your homegrown talent to another team can create. If I could, I would take care of you Orlando, wrap you up in a big blanket, put on some big band music, and take you to Luby's intime to catch the earily bird special. There, there don't get too worked up, you know your blood pressure.
I'd rather have Yao, 7-6 with those skills hands down every time. But Dwight Howard is going to be something really special. He's one of the most physically imposing specimens ever in the league. He also seems to have the brains and work ethic along with the right personality to be a good guy and to improve.
Yeah exactly. A lot of people are really down on Yao's progression. Yao won't even be hitting his peak till after 30.
Nothing is clear in the NBA. Who knows how Yao will progress and how good Oden is? There could be someone else that could come out as well.
i'm pretty positive that howard scored a total of two points when yao was in the game. this article is flat-out r****ded.
I doubt Howard ever develops a touch like Yao, which combined with his size is what sets Yao apart from everyone. Howard's offense will probably remain power oriented. Moses was like that too but he developed a jumper in the middle of his career. I wish Amare the best but he's a longshot to regain his explosiveness. Maybe late this season or next season.
Amare is just an arrogant a$$. His problem is in his head it always was. It looks to me like he just fooled the Suns then cashed in, and now he's already lazy and acting like a spoiled brat. He's got to be the most cockiest player I have seen.
