I don't have Tivo or a DVR. We have VCR's that we set the timer for. I bought a DVD recorder, but it was cheap and crappy, so I returned it.
Same here as droxford... I have recorded EVERY TEXANS' game on my vcr completely, except the overtime game. VCR Will NEVER DIE, baby. NEVER!!!!!
Sorry to break it to you. The VCR is dead. Died about a year ago, in a slow, water torture death. There is a reason why video rental places dont carry VCR tapes anymore. Stone cold dead. RIP+
Rental places DO carry VHS tapes... Don't give me that crap! Let's put it to the test. We will name some movies, and if they're on DVD and NOT VHS, you win, else, I win. Maybe YOUR VCR died. Mine is still kicking your DVD's *ss because your DVD player can't record.
I'd say that VCR is dying slowly. For new movie purchases, DVD has taken over. For home recording, however, VCR still lives for these reasons: 1) it's cheap 2) it's established 3) it's simple 4) it's cheap DV recording (DVR and DVD recorders) will eventually kill VCR, but that won't happen until the recorders are cheap (for good-quality units), the technology has established itself for a while (a lot of people don't want to bye a DVR unit knowing that a new HDTV is standard is coming), and until the units have more functions that are easier to operate. That will happen, but not for at least 5 years.
YOu have to be smarter than the DVR... Mine has not been changing the channels lately...I've re-started and re-connected them...good luck...
I absolutely positively *LOVE* my DVR. It's from Dish & it can record 2 shows at once, & playback a previously recorded show at the same time! I actually wish I had a DVR for the radio & could rewind it. There's a lot of things I wish were DVR-able. I like watching things over & especially *LOVE* skipping commercials. And yes, I let the game cache before I start watching it. 30-40 mins is perfect for a 3hr game because by time you run out of cache, you're right at the end of the game in real time. Only one time did this burn me & that's when the MNF had 2 games on & the early one was getting exciting. It had to change channels to get the other to start on time & by time I got to the end of the cache & realize it had to change channels, when I switched, the game was over & I missed like 10mins. I'm never going to not use a DVR again. You never miss anythign . . .
If you think that it's only because you've never used a DVR! Why do we like CD/DVD more then LP/cassettes? Because we can get to the point on the album IMMEDIATELY. I'll race you. You record to your VHS, I'll record to my DVR. As soon as it's over, start from the beginning & then jump to the end of halftime. What I love about the DVR, is that you can WATCH the recording WHILE it's recording, but be 15-30 minutes behind (similar process to caching it, but not just hitting pause) *OR* pause the show in the living room, hop into bed, & pick up immediately . . . without having to eject a tape. I dunno, but I do know this . . . I'm never going back to VHS ever again (except to watch the Dream video, Clutch City, Double Clutch.)
A DVR? no. but, I did own a DVD recorder for a month. I'll never own a DVR. I want to store my shows on removable media. The DVD recorder I owned had the watch-while-recording-in-advance feature. Umm.. ok. You win. DVR's and DVD recorders have much more convenient access to the content. That wasn't one of the reasons that I listed for VHS's continuing to live. And it seems like you're viewing my statements as "VHS is better." That's not how I feel. VHS isn't better. But VHS isn't dead and won't be dead for quite a while.
You're on (BTW im a DVR supporter, have 2) BUT my VCR will fast forward or rewind a 6hr tape in less than one minute. It takes longer than that to get to halftime on the TW DVR's. I think the whole thing is really how comfortable you are with a device or how much you really know about it. I used to work at Time Warner so im familiar with all their services and devices. Unfortunately I havent had any experiance with Tivo yet.
