hey guys I am in the market of looking to get a good upconverting dvd player. I used to own a samsung bdp-1200 blu-ray player with had the hqv reon chip which made upconversions look absolutely beautiful much better than my xbox 360 or ps3 upconversions. been trying to look for something like that since I have a collection of around 300 or so SD DVDs that I certainly do not want to just lay aside. I was looking at getting the toshiba hd-ax2 hddvd player (i have teh add-on for the 360) since that was the #1 upconverting player out there for some time (also included the reon chip) but the prices even now for a used player are pushing ~250-300 bucks. much more than what I would want to spend. I looked online and apparently Toshiba has made a upcoverting player since it has backed out of the format wars that is supposedly better than the reon chip. Toshiba XD-E500 is the make and model number and the price is very cheap (69 bucks on amazon right now) and its just a dvd player which is all i am looking for really. Does anyone here have this model and know what the quality looks like? the reviews I have read have been pretty glowing so far but there was some issues like no Aspect Ratio correction for native 4:3 sources. That would be an issues since I have a lot of tv shows on dvd and would not want them to be stretched out. Maybe my tv maybe to correct that but still would be nice if it sensed the proper aspect ratio and fixed it that way. Also does anyone else have any recommendations on good/great upscaling dvd players? I am talking something better than the ps3/360 which may be what most people here have. If anyone has seen the way the HD-AX2 or the BDP1200 upconverted you would know what I mean by differences from the standard ps3/360 upscaling. Thanks in Advance
