Does anyone know of a DVD player that is fairly cheap, but still decent.

I don't need anything too fancy because I don't watch all that many DVDs in my dorm, but something that won't break shortly would be good.

you need a portable dvd player or just a dvd player?

I got a few of the Daewood combo DVD/VHS players for aboug $80 at Target.

My kids love em because they can put tapes or DVDs in and at $80 I don't worry about replacing them.

    uprising.

just a DVD player, I can always use laptop if I want to watch them somewhere else, but would like a regular dvd player for my room.

dadakota.. that sounds like a good deal for a combo one...

I'm tempted to buy one of those really cheap ones like you mentioned just wonder if they last more than a week.. but at that price you can always replace them..

the cheapest one I see on best buy from a brand I've heard of much is a magnavox one for 46 I think it was.

I bought my gf's mother a decent one at Best Buy for $37 plus tax. I couldn't find it on the website, but it looks a lot like This One There's always ebay, just make sure it plays the right kind of dvd's.

The Cyberhome players are very decent, particularly if your TV is less than 40-inches. I own one as my "multi-region" player (there is a trivial hack which allows them to play foreign discs), and even on a big-screen HDTV, I get acceptable performance.

The Philips DVP642 is pretty neat. More expensive than I guess you're looking for, but it plays Xvid and DivX and a bunch of other formats. Just burn stuff you download onto CDs and this can handle it.

If you are connecting to a TV with component inputs, you will get a better picture from a progressive scan DVD player.

both my dad and my girlfriend have that magnavox one. my dad's had his over a year with no problems. it works great and also reads all the burned dvds that i feed it. it's less then 50 bucks i'd definitely go for that.

I've had problems w/ Cyberhome. Got one free from my bank, and one that records DVDs. Both have had issues.
