This may or may not be a stupid question but here it goes: Is it possible to record from a DVD player to a VCR? I was just wondering because I have some DVDs that I wanted to make copies of on blank VHS tapes. Flame away! P.S.-- If any of you have a RF Modulator you would like to sell for cheap or give to charity, let me know and I will gladly take it off your hands. I haven't had a chance to upgrade my TV as of yet, and I have to have one of these damn modulators to view my DVDs. Any help with the above situations would be greatly appreciated! ------------------
Have you ever dubbed a tape before? Anyways, just hook the DVD player and VCR together, hook the DVD player to the TV, and tell the VCR to record channel 3 (or 4). I know I didn't explain that right, but you get the logic. Basicly, you're just recording what the DVD player is playing. ------------------
except there's a little thing called Macrovision which will kind of get in the way. ------------------
Macrovision is a copy-protection scheme for DVD's. You can always rip DVD's onto your pc and then burn them onto VCR, but it will require tons of hard drive space and additional hardware/software. I'm not telling you how, because I don't want to be an accessory to your crime. ------------------ This space awaiting something witty to be said in a long, slow off-season...

IF you want to burn DVD's to your computer, just do a search on the net. But don't waste your time, you can just download the movies. But by the time you download them, you may as well gone and rented it. As for copying them to VHS, I thought there was away around the protecting scheme. Once again, do a search on the net and you might come up with something. ------------------ "Bada Bing!"
Go here dude.... www.vcdhelp.com Scope out the forum or some of the ripping guides. The whole process can get somewhat intense; just depends on how far you wanna take it. Not if you have cable or DSL ------------------
Of course you will lose all digital features of the DVD when you recored it on VHS. ------------------ In the end there will be no judges...only witnesses to my greatness.
Its not worth the hassle believe me. My problem is I'm trying to record High Definition. The VCR that could do it has been recalled because of Hollywood and the other two options are either a pain in the neck(HTPC) or really expensive (sencore). It doesn't sound like you have a good TV if you need a RF modulator. ------------------ "We need to FOCASS".... Akeem Olajuwon
