No, he didnt put that team together. And that's part of the problem. Everyone knew Whitsett ran the team. The coach knew it, the players knew it, everyone.

Hey coach, we just traded Briant Grant for Shawn Kemp. Hey coach, we just got rid of Jermaine O'Neal... Oh well.

Part of the problem was that it didn't matter what the coach did because the true boss was Whitsett. The players didnt give a dang what Mike Dunleavy thought of them.

Even if Larry Brown was to come here only as a coach, players understand his rep for running players out. CD and Larry Borwn work close in hand so if Larry really pushed and complained that so and so is a total loser and didnt work, he could convince CD.

It's this reputation that Brown has a say in personnel decisions that wouldve scared the crap out of certain players.

Mike Dunleavy won't get that rep. He will be just another coach.

Without at least the threat of power, how much can this immature team improve?

Not as much as it wouldve had Brown taken over.

RIET hit it right on the money. I mean i find it pretty impressive that he actually took that team to the WCF with all the bad apples on the team. The only thing I have a concern with is our big men....EG and Yao. I hope if Dunleavy gets the coaching spot he'll be able to develop them even more.

Too bad Dunleavy's name is even in the mix. The man who cost Portland their best chance at a title in 2000. Portland up 15 and Lakers making a run and Dumbleavy decides to call a timeout after the lead evaporates:eek:

Jermaine O'neal rotting on the bench:mad:

Good person not the right guy for the Rox IMO.

I know I don't post often but I live up here in Trail Gangsta land and alot of people still talk about 2000.

Rick Carlisle or Silas are the only logical choices now.

Too bad we couldn't talk to Mo Cheeks. Class act, up and comer, and could help Steve take it to the next level.

its unfortunate you feel you are the be all end all of basketball post knowledge.

Isn't that what a message board is for; opinions? If you don't like what I say don't read it. Your reply wasn't necessary.

    Have a nice day!

oh i dont' hold myself up like that. it's just unfair that Dunleavy STILL gets a bad rap for what happened 3 years ago. similiar things happened this year when portland played against the mavs. i was rooting for a 0-3 turnaround by the blazers but in game 7, when the mavs put on a run...the blazers left the thing that got them there--team play. everyone went for their own stats.

    Well....who else is left?

    Dunleavy......or Silas.

    That's sad.

    What would be worse?

    IF DUNLEAVY GOES TO ATLANTA.

Then we're freakin stuck with Silas.

    Silas is overall good coach.

Carlisle is a master at defense but average on offense.....

    GOD.

    We should interview Carlisle.

    We're screwed.

If we wait- we will miss out on Carlisle too. If Dunleavy goes to Atlanta, may coaches will be leary of the Rockets-ther will be a perception of indeciciveness...
