Question: Which Fits *OUR* Team Better I like C.Webb because he seems to be a better passer. Duncan is . . BIG FUNDAMENTALS Neither seems to DEMAND the ball alot [C.Webb more than Duncan. . .] Duncan is an IN THE FLOW type of player If he have to blow the wad [this year or next year] Which do you preferred? [THIS IS SUPPOSING THAT WE HAVE A SHOT] Rocket River ------------------
My opinion is Tim Duncan. He really fits what the Rockets are trying to do. Rudy T was speaking about adding a big man that can shoot from the perimeter and Duncan possesses the ability to do that along with posting up. Duncan plays the pick and roll very well and would be an excellent match with Steve Francis. He would add the necessary rebounding and defense this team needs in the frontcourt. Chris Webber does have more sheer athleticism, but Duncan has the smoothness in his offensive game the Rockets could use. Webber runs the floor better, but Duncan is no slouch in that area. ------------------ Check out the Best Source for Draft Info Draftsource.net
First, I don't see C Webb leaving. He seems to love playing there. Secondly, Duncan has hinted that he'd like to leave. Now who would I rather have? Duncan... Webber is three years older than Tim Tim's a better free throw shooter Tim's a better rebounder (slightly) Tim's also a more intimidating low post defensive presence The only categories that Webber has the edge in is assists and steals. Intangibles are hard to measure, but here's my take on two aspects of the game: When is comes to intensity, Webber wins hands down. I'm sure Duncan can be intense, but Webber is intense. When is comes to consistency, Duncan wins. Duncan had 60 double-doubles, while Webber also had an impressive 49. Another reason Duncan wins the "consistency" category is for the same reason Webber won the intensity category. Webber feeds off energy, energy from the crowd, energy from his team mates, energy from a certain match-up, but he can also succumb to lulls when the energy isn't there. Duncan performs day in and day out regardless of the circumstances. Maybe another intangible would be what Rocket River brought up about demanding the ball. I don't think Webber can stay in the game mentally if he's not scoring and dominating on the offensive end. Duncan will still need his shots, but won't demand the ball with the same necessity of a Webber. In the last three years (This is after Webber's shoulder problems), Duncan has missed 8 games and Webber has missed 26. ------------------ I have a dream.........his name's Hakeem.
Chris Webber is the better fit. Chris Webber is a 20-10 player with defensive ability and as stated, sheer athleticism. PG: Francis, Moochie SG: Shandon, Mobley (if he stays) SF: Walt, Rookie or exemption PF: Chris Webber, Kenny Thomas C: Cato, and Dream (if he doesn't retire...I'll be mad) Duncan sounds nice for us, and I see you guys' point about Duncan, but Webber is a more cohesive piece to the team than Duncan, who has never played run and gun basketball. But that's jusy my take on it. Remember, I'm an armchair quarterback just like the rest of you guys! ------------------ Wanna play in the clutchcity.net game? Got some ideas? Duncan. Good centers are near impossible to find, and Duncan is probably the only good center near Francis' age. Webber is great, and I wouldn't complain about having him, but he's a PF and PF is an easier spot to fill. As far as how Duncan fits our system and run-and-gun and whatnot, it doesn't matter. When you get Duncan, you mold your team, your offense and your defense around him. ------------------
I would be estatic even to be mentioned as possibly getting either one of these guys. I would pick Duncan for the following reasons: age and experience. I know that Webber's been in the league longer, but Duncan has won an NBA championship. Some players may not have that extra something that makes them champions. Not that they don't try hard, or are marvelous players, but when you've never won anything, you might not understand what it takes to win it all. Duncan has that. ------------------ Get your proper swirve on...visit www.swirve.com (coming in late May, for now visit www.eesite.com)
Gimme C Webb anyday...He's twice as tough. Duncan has always seemed somewhat soft to me....plus he's had the luxury of teaming up with Robinson. Methinks he's gonna get a taste of the real world if he decides to leave. ------------------
All things being equal, I would take Duncan--but only by a nose. This comes down to Duncan being 3 years younger, though he would be coming off a knee injury. In my opinion right now they are near equals when healthy however, and I believe if C-Webb was on the Spurs last year instead of Duncan that team still would have won the whole thing. Now I would rather have C-Webb and keep all of our players than trade 3-4 good players and picks for Duncan. What is bad fortune for Duncan--that he is free agent this off season when we aren't under the cap, is good fortune for Webber, as the latter is by far the best player for us to pursue when we are under the cap. To me, keeping our team intact except adding Webber in 2001 by free agency (we will be by far the best team under the cap and it would be C-Webbs best chance for a ring) is a much more realistic scenario than acquiring Duncan from our I-10 rivals even with giving up the farm to do it. I have to preface this view that it is not based on inside information, just logic. Webber in 2001! That is my motto. ------------------
Duncan is my 1st instinct. He's a li'l taller (2 inches) and can play some C. Plus at 24 he still he has more years left that CWebb, and could even get better (!). But I would take Webber if he was available. Gotta love that the guy's charity foundation is named "Timeout" (we all know what that is in reference to). He's significantly improved his game this season, esp. free throw shooting, and (unlike Duncan) isn't coming off a serious injury. As long as we're living in fantasy land, though, I'd take Garnett over either of these guys. His game is unreal. ------------------
