What are the guard bashers going to say now ? Did Francis take too many shots ? Did Mobley take too many shots ? Is Yao getting the ball enough for you ? Francis and Mobley carried the team to victory yet again this season. Granted they have a force inside that requires attention from the opponents, but please stop the whining about our guards playing dumb basketball. Someone was talking about developping bad habits by not getting Yao the ball enough. His shooting percentage is down from last year's. Even his rebounding is down. To me, he is still not in shape. He's not a leader on this team, at least not yet, therefore he is getting the ball when he needs too. Be thankful we have Steve and Cat in a Rockets uniform...
Steve and Cat played a great game .... I'd love to see u come back and boast like this after every game ... 'cause it will mean we win them all. BTW, your stat is not accurate. After 5 games, Yao is at 50%FG, 8.2 reb/ gm. Same number as last yr even after a bad game. He did get a good number of touches this game but don't forget some of his shots came from the 6 off. rebs.
1. Don't forget to include Stevie's 6/17 FG from the Nets' matchup. 2. His shooting percentage is down from last year's, huh? Dude, get your stats straight. It's a respectable 50% FG, 15.2 ppg, 8.4 rpg. Last season was 49.8% FG, 13.5 ppg, 8.2 rpg. 3. (Houston Chronicle, Nov 9) Yao really did not take bad shots but just shot badly. He made six of 18 attempts but drew enough attention to help spring Rockets shooters on the perimeter and added his most aggressive rebounding effort of the season. Yao and Kelvin Cato each had 11 rebounds. "A lot of that (scoring) came from Yao, his passing," Rivers said. "I know Patrick Ewing didn't teach him to pass."
I liked the dig on Ewing. If we win 4 out of every 5 games this season and get opposing coaches ragging on Patrick Ewing after the games, this will be one hell of a season. I still hate you, Patrick. Burn in hell.
OK, so his stats are the same as last year's overall. BUUUUUUT, if you remember the way the season went last year, you'd notice that his numbers started very high and finished much lower as he got tired over the length of season. After 5 games, his FG percentage was around 70%... I'm not saying he's playing poorly. His numbers are not bad. To me he's not in NBA shape. He cannot carry the team and therefore the guards are doing what they need to do. I am simply responding to the negative threads about our guards and their so called "lack of brains".
Simple: stop talking crap about our guards, and quit crying about Yao not getting the ball enough. I've read way too many of those threads on the board. If we start losing games i may change my mind, in the meantime, i believe JVG has this team playing good smart basketball...even if we lead the league in turnovers...Hell, Cat is leading the team in FG percentage ! Let him shoot !
You can't really compare an off night to year long stupid shot selections, lack of passing, turning it over at crunch time, inability to play defense, incessant dribbling etc, in other words, just plain bad basketball. Now the guard play is getting better under the new coach. Still, it's oranges and apples.
Not in NBA shape hur? I bet you are. Sorry to say, Cat still makes stupid mistakes last night, albeit a good game. I was in the chatroom. Some of the criticism are excessive, but you can't just come in and boast like that after one game.
we need yao. but we also need francis and mobley. i'm getting tired of people starting to complain about a player after every game. when francis doesn't play well people start complaining. when mobley plays people want to trade him (and yes i didn't say when he plays bad). and when yao doens't play good people say he isn't verry good. al 3 of them a good player, francis and yao will be our coure for years to come. Mobley is a player who has played different roles for our team in his career. please do not complain after every game. be happy we won again.
What's my shape got to do with anything ? Chatroom criticism is a bit different. I've been there and change my mind on every play...hell sometimes i change twice on the same play... I'm not boasting. And it's not one game, i've been defending our guards since game one. They're good players, they've carried the team in each game this season and you should love 'em !
Did i say we did not need Yao ? Yao certainly makes life easier for our little guys. My original post was in defense of our guards who get bashed after every win for not giving Yao more basketballs... We've already blown out 2 teams, which hasn't happened since 1964. JVG has us playing great defense, and i know we'll only get better as the season moves on...I am happy ! Here
I don't think there's been much talk this season about stupid guard play. The guards have played really smart basketball, shooting when their open and swinging to the open man. I guess there were a few complaints in the nets game about Yao not getting enough touches, but it's a simple fact that Cat and Steve have been shooting and making good shots for the most part.
Maybe i've got more free time right now then you do because i've read lots of complaints about Francis and Cat. It started in game 1, Yao was not involved enough and Cat took to many shots. It got really bad in the loss to Memphis. And it kept going with the Nets...I haven't read anything negative since the Magic game...but some people are still sleeping in the states...
