It depends on how they do their measuring. The wiring from you to the CO could be less than how the distance they calculate if they use ground transportation distance as a way of measuring. In other words, the distance from point A to point B via city streets. There's also the infamous "as the crow flies" distance which is basically "how far is it from point A to point B" if I were to just up and fly there (no twists or turns)? To further complicate the matter, imagine that the copper wiring is not a straight line, but makes loops underground in some cases... Let's make it even worse by saying, not all CO DSLAMs support DSL so then it doesn't matter how far or close you live. In other words, it ain't an exact science and dslreports.com ain't the final answer. The only way to truly tell is by having the phone company run a test.
