I love em'... Remember them as a kid growing up in Houston... There is one in Hockley called Showboat Drive In. Has anyone been to it?
I think I read from this board that the Gulfgate Center had one in the 60's or something. I used to go to the Wing Stop there... delicious.
Not if it's in the winter.. besides.. from the old movies, I thought people just use drive-in theaters to secks in the car..
www.theshowboatdrivein.com Saw Kungfu Panda and Indiana Jones there friday night. Nice breeze blowing it was great. Most people bring chairs and sit outside of their cars. Turn your car stereo up loud and get your drink on while watching the movie.
I saw "The Exorcist" in 1975 (age 12) at the Bayou Drive-In in La Marque. I was too scared to walk to the concession stand.
When I was a kid in the 50's my parents took us to the drive-in because they could watch the movie and we could go play on the playground equipment right under the 50' screen. It was surreal fun. When we got tired, we just fell asleep on the back seat. When I was a teenager in the 60's we went to the drive in because it was a safe and convenient place to makeout. In winter you could roll up the windows and lock the doors and after the windows steamed up from all the heavy breathing you were cool to try to get past second base. In the East Texas town where I grew up, we had two drive-ins. The family one and the other one. The other one decided to compete by carding anyone under 18 and showing the most risque stuff they could get by with. But you could park on the road behind it and watch till the police came by. The first "porno" I ever saw was titled 'The Birth Of Triplets". It was p*rn in 1968 because they showed the woman's vagina..but she was having babies.
I love drive-ins...They have one just south of Dallas in Garrett, Texas, just north of Ennis, (about 45 minutes from my house) that I go to at least once a year... Galaxy Drive-In
Weslaco is a city in Hidalgo County, Texas, United States. The population was 26,935 at the 2000 census. Weslaco derives its name from the W.E. Stewart Land Company. It was the hometown of Harlon Block, one of the Marines photographed raising the flag at Iwo Jima It's at the bottom tip of Texas, right next to Mexico. It's hot and small, but I liked living there for a little while.
Galaxy and Showboat is still in business.. Anyone been to one lately or is there a new one clutchfans should know about?
There are 3 that I know of in the Dallas-Fort Worth Area The Galaxy Drive-in that RRJGamz mentioned above, The Brazos Drive-in in Granbury: http://www.thebrazos.com/home.htm and the newest one that just opened here in Fort Worth next to the minor league baseball field: http://www.coyotedrive-in.com/ There's also one in east Texas in Tyler: http://www.tylerdrivein.com/
'stranded at the drive in, branded of a fool what will they say tomorrow at school. ' wish there was one closer.
I have recent experience at the Showboat (About a month ago). Went there to take my lady to see Gatsby. The sound quality has definitely gotten better from the first time I went in 2010. I think the screens were upgraded recently. Most people are out on lawnchairs. I personally just sat in my car with all windows down. Tickets are super cheap, I believe it was $$6 a person when I went and it covered two movies. As far as concessions go, they tell you that outside food and drink are not allowed, but it is rarely enforced. I usually bring a cooler with beer, and pack up some snacks and I am good to go.
