Marbury test shows higher blood-alcohol level, police say

    February 20, 2002

PHOENIX (AP) -- Phoenix Suns guard Stephon Marbury had a higher blood-alcohol content than initially reported following his recent DUI arrest, according to police.

A blood test taken the night Marbury was arrested indicated the basketball star had a blood-alcohol content of 0.18, Scottsdale police Sgt. Doug Dirren said.

The initial test, measured with a hand-held breath tester, indicated his blood-alcohol content was 0.153, the police said. The state's legal limit is 0.08.

Marbury was arrested on Feb. 8 and booked on charges of extreme driving under the influence, driving under the influence and speeding.

Police said Marbury had been weaving his Bentley convertible about 1:30 a.m. MST at 25 miles mph over the speed limit.

Extreme DUI, a charge that can be used when a person has a blood alcohol level of at least 0.15, carries harsher penalties than a regular DUI.

He did say once that he wanted out of Minnesota because they wouldn't let him drink and they didn't give him the best tables in the house.

    So there you go.
