Both Bull and Clyde need to read books on the art of broadcasting.

It's not about trying to be a comedian or a homer.

    Great broadcasters don't waste words.

I dont think anyone thinks Bullard is great but he's much better than Clyde. Clyde is a Houston sports legend and a HOF'er but that doesn't give him a free pass. Everyone knows he would rather be playing golf than preparing for the telecast. I guess he does it for the $ and just so he will be connected to the game somehow. All local broadcasters are homers somewhat. They are employed by the Rockets.

I think they are doing well for being former players. Plus they are doing a TV broadcast where the images speak louder than the words. I agree with you when it comes to radio. If you listen to Vandermeer and Andre Ware on the Texans broadcast they are what you describe.

42 pages! Wish I had time to read through them all... I'll just add my wish that Calvin should have been given some broadcast minutes again. Then let the listeners decide who they prefer. I guess there's still a stigma that Les doesn't want to remind viewers of.

I like Matt, but having him follow in the "cookie train" doesn't make him a Calvin Murphy. Calvin was closer to Worrell's age and their banter sounded natural... more believable. Drexler is certainly good for comic relief (unintentionally). The worst, for me, is his regular "cackle," that doesn't sound genuine. It's more about letting us know he tried to make a funny comment. I don't dislike him, though. He just doesn't seem as natural at announcing.

I don't know if I've ever seen Drexler use the Telestrater. Did I just miss those instances, or...?

Anyone know what happened to Clyde the past few games? Did he finally get the boot? :)

Its his annual "All star break". Bill Worrell gave him grief about it after the Jazz game. He just looked kinda sheepish and didn't really respond.

Hahaha that's perfect. I, for one, love Clyde because he's very Madden-esque. Seriously, if you can keep this up, I may put you in my sig.

Very Madden-esque? Madden obviously declined at the end but he was the #1 football announcer in the country for many years. I dont understand the analogy.

said earlier that "Artest continues to shoot at a high clip" (34.7 FG%), and "the lakers are fast, young, and talented" (oldest team in league, or one of them).

"The Lakers were trying to foul Parsons, and the officials just wouldn't call it. Good job by the officials" (with no obvious sarcasm)
