Should it just be a standing pose, with him holding a basketball under his arm, or something else? Should it have other players around him from a memorable game action shot? Imho, it should be a game action shot, & the one that most typifies his entire career & never give up attitude was the shot he blocked on KJ after running the entire length of the court. What pose would you like to see?
There is a discussion in the Downtown Thread also: http://bbs.clutchcity.net/php3/showthread.php?s=&threadid=42422 I would love to see a statue of him in a fadeaway motion like this pic below: Or this one vicious dunk:
I think the dreamshake would be sweet, with Mr. Robinson looking very confused, possibly a jock strap on the floor, etc...
Horrible thought here: what if they make the statue, (a semi-permanent monument), with the Dream in our ugly-ass pajama uniforms? I hope they make the uni generic and undetailed. Does anyone know if you can see the unis on the MJ statue in Chicago? Or the Willie Mays statue in SF? (I've seen the Mays statue, but I don't recall the uniform being detailed).
THE UNIFORM MUST BE THE OLD RED AND GOLD FROM THE CHAMPIONSHIP DAYS!!!! otherwise, I agree with a pose of him shooting out of the Dreamshake.
How about dream and drexler highfiving after they won the title in 95? Everyone recongizes that, i know its suposed to be a dream statue but im sure he wont mind sharing some gloring with his buddy clyde
Most statues of sports figures are always generic looking. What do you think its going to be a huge statue with red paint all over it.
Totally agree, especially the look of concentration ( dare I say it, fokass) on his face...makes him look like he's in his own zone...
I think it should be Hakeem Olajuwon carrying all 25 rockets on his back ... including chucky brown. Sculpted by that guy who did the thinker.
You guys need to stop with the "fockass" talk. Every time I read it I start giggling like a lil school girl. This is far fetched and outrageous, but I would do three statues of Olajuwon. One for each one of the moves he made on that one play on Robinson in Game 2 of the 95 WC finals. lol Heres a great description of the move that I pulled from my Houston Chronicle archives: "Hakeem Olajuwon turned, ready to make his move to the basket. David Robinson crouched low, muscles tensed as he readied himself for what was to come. Perhaps if Robinson had known at the time, he might have just gotten out of the way. Maybe there could have been a way to avoid being made the pigeon in what so far has become the defining moment of the Western Conference finals . But there was no such foresight for Robinson. Olajuwon took a hard dribble, pump-faked left, showed the ball, spun, pumped right and showed the ball again. Robinson, not biting on the first move, finally went airborne as he fell for the second. Yeah, now you see it, now you don't. The sucker play had worked again. As Robinson flew by, Olajuwon went back to his left, ducked under and kissed the ball off the glass for two of his 41 points. Indeed, there's trouble in Mr. Robinson's neighborhood and the reason is a nasty little move by Olajuwon called the "Dream Shake." "Oh, it's just a move," said Olajuwon with a shrug, attempting to describe the maneuver."
But if you use the fadeaway, will it be magnetically levitating in mid-air, or what? If that's going to work, it will have to be hollow and light weight. But THEN you run into trouble next time a hurricane blows through. Imagine a 12-foot-high Dream statue sailing along in an 95-mph wind! (By the way, peleincubus, this too is a joke. So no need to take it seriously).
Classic Hakeem...that's how I remember him. The Shake and Bake fadeaway for two over _________ . (place any player's name here)
I'd like to see Dream by himself, rising, with one arm extended. This way, you could look at it as if he had just released the shot or he's going up to swat some poor soul's attempt, or he's going up after the rebound. The vertical extension also calls the mind to the number "1."
