Wow! So this is official?? This is great! To top it all off, maybe one of our rare ping pong balls will make its way to pick #1! Nothing wrong with dreaming big, right?? ------------------ "I didn't like jr. high when I was there. Why would I want to watch it on tv?" P. Mesku's opinion about "Survivor"
I'm confused by that #18. Orlando also has the Dallas pick, which is 23rd. Why would they give us 18 and keep 23 when they can keep 18 and give us 23? The Orlando Sentinel had reported that we'd get the worse one. There might be some kind of protection on the pick that I'm unaware of. I hate to be wrong on these draft pick stuffs, but if it means the Rockets get #18 instead of #23, I'll live with it. ------------------ RealGM Gafford Art Artisan Cakes
We have some checks in on this ... I think if we do get it we'll be working out something with Vancouver to relieve ourselves of that first round pick commitment, perhaps sending them #18 outright. ------------------ NOTHING BUT .NET CLUTCHCITY.NET
Yup... Right now I don't think we need to give a pick to vancouver...but I think something is more than likely to happen. ------------------ Draftsource.net
With the 13th pick in the 2001 nba draft the Houston Rockets select........Mike Dunleavy. ------------------ Ceo of the Walt Williams and Lisa Malosky fan club. atheistalliance.org
Also on the NBA page Draft List they say that Detroits lottery pick could go to Houston via Philly what is that about? CK ------------------ When someone annoys you, it takes 42 muscles to frown, but it takes 4 to reach out and b****-slap the b*stard upside the head
Must I remind you guys what happened when we had three first rounders in one of the best drafts in NBA history? I sure hope we make some better first round picks than we did in 1998 . Well look what the Rams did in the NFL draft , they got their first rounders and are looking in pretty good shape . ------------------ Vice President of Executive Operations of the Sean Colson Fan Club http://bbs.clutchcity.net
Moestavern, 1998 could have been better, but it wasn't a disaapointment. MD and Cat (in 2nd) were great picks. Lewis wasn't drafted because the rockets needed immediate help as the window was closing. Drew would be a decent Pg in the Olajuwon centered offense. The rocks haven't gotten the third pick yet which may just turn into gold. Turcan may have helped, but was a mistake in light of events following the draft. If the rockets land two productive starters in the draft, I'll be dancing in the streets, as long as one is able to replace Anderson with a player more suited for the Rocket's 3. ------------------
What a pleasant surprise. We have options everywhere, who knows what we'll pull off. All I know is there is no way we can lose ground this offseason. 3 first round picks, a shot at Webber and/or other FAs, and a little trade bait. It's so exciting!!! ------------------
I guess there's the possibility Orlando gave us that particular pick, wherever it was going to land. The Detroit footnote is from the Turkcan trade, we got a conditional first rounder from Detroit (who gave it to Philly who gave it to us). 18 is in the very end of the quality players range, the difference between 18, and 22 or 24 is very big IMO. 13+18 is a fairly impressive package. In 1998, Didn't 16+18 land Kevin Willis in Toronto? ------------------ "That's been a lifelong dream of mine." -Vince Carter, after laying it in on a breakaway, much to the Vancouver crowd's displeasure.
Nike, you said you think the difference between 18 and 22 or 24 is very big. How about going over to the draft forum and listing who you think is coming out and where that big drop-off occurs? ------------------
In this draft, #22 or #23 will still land you someone who can contribute...a sleeper hit; Morris should fall here, someone who can succeed or fail, but worth a shot, and definitely someone who can contribute in the zone NBA. Sucky teams needing to fill the cupboard because 1. free agents shun them (Da Bulls) 2. they're plagued by the Injury Ghost (Nets) 3. they have the main ingredients, all they need now is depth (Hawks) could really use these picks of ours. For example, the Hawks have Toni Kukoc as starting small forward. If the Hawks draft fourth or so, that's about where Battier would fall. Of course, if DeSagana Diop appears on their radar, all bets are off; but they also have Ratliff. Man, the opportunities we have with these picks! I'm gonna be in Japan when the draft occurs. Like some dork, I'll be looking for the nearest Internet connection to find out what's going on. Can't wait! ------------------
Do we get Chicagos second rounder this year from the Drew trade? That is almost the same as a first round pick because of Minny not picking. That would mean we have basically 4 first round picks. ------------------ "Of course, thats just my opinion, I could be wrong" -- Dennis Miller

I had also noticed that. It doesnt seem to make much sense. Im not arguing, but it would be dumb for Orlando to give us 18 and not 23. Dont we have another year to give Vancouver a pick? Most likely we wont be in the lotto next year and while the pick may end up being in the same area, we can do so much more with it this year. ------------------ I hope, when they die, cartoon characters have to answer for their sins.
Well the 18 is somewhat official. That is, even the nba.com site says Houston gets the 18. ------------------ women love me, fish fear me.
