Heh.. I just loved the sour look on Jerry Krause's face when the results were announced.

Man, he is one ugly, dour-looking mofo. [IMG]

    aelliott,

Start a thread that can serve as a platform for a respectable debate. Overall, too many quality posters working in this minor thread.

If the draft were fixed, wouldn't the Bulls have landed the 1, 2, or 3 pick?

Bulls still sell out all home games, knowing Stern's previous record, he would milk Chicago for all it's worth

Nope, that would have been too obvious if Stern let the Bulls AND the Wiz get top 3 picks. Who cares that they were 2 of the top 3 worst teams in the league?

The league had to make the fix look less obvious by giving the Bulls the shaft.

Of course the lottery is fixed at least some of the time. Remember it's first year? The whole thing was created so that NY could get Ewing. Before the draft everyone was talking about how great it would be for the league if Ewing went to NY. Even on David Letterman a week or so before the lottery order was shown, I forgot who it was, said "when Ewing goes to NY, Well I mean if Ewing goes to NY" I'm paraphrasing, but the guy all but said Ewing was going to NY. And lo and behold after everyone and their mother was talking about how great it would be for the league if Ewing went to NY, NY gets the #1 pick.

    IT WAS RIGGED!!

Two things on the draft broadcast:

Anyone notice how Ahmad's suit and tie resembed a Rockets uniform? Ergh.

Krause looked like a fat, disgusted toad. "Management wins championships" my left nut. Go hire some more phone staff to sell season tickets.

I don't know if it's a conspiracy, but it sure did fuel the fire.

Also why do they do the lotto behind closed doors, what's the difference?

One point to bring up is, why doesn't the NBA just show the ping pong balls popping up?

Would it kill the league to show the audience the balls popping up? If there indeed actually are "balls"?

The Texas Lottery shows the balls popping up on TV, so why can't the NBA?

Pressed for time? Does Peter Vecsey really need more air-time?

Wow, first off I was kidding.

Secondly, your weak conspiracy theories are not somehow exposing the fradulent nature of the league. They just cast you in a negative light.

If the league was truly fixing the draft, Duncan would be in Boston and we would have another Boston-LA rivalry, you know, like the league had back in its heyday. And don't forget Chicago, they've been suckiong to get the No. 1 pick the past couple of years and have been completely shut out of the top three in the past two years. If the league was fixing the lottery, why wouldn't they try to get top-flight talent into one of their major media markets? Instead they've got Atlanta, a place that couldn't care less about its team in the lotto, and the Clippers, a team that always seems to screw up right when you think they might do something good.

It doesn't make sense. If the league is smart enough to fix the lottery w/o anyone knowing about it, or leaking it to the press, you'd think they would do a better job of fixing it to their advantage.

I always make this argument to the X-Filers.

If the league is so fixed, why bother watching the games, going to the arena, buying player jerseys and just picking a team to root for in general?

Unless you are just a dumb sheep following the NBA sheephearder named Stern, I guess.

I guess its like wrestling only that the Rock is Kobe. Or maybe its like when we all went to see the Titanic. Sure we all knew the movie was fixed from the get go, I mean we all knew that the boat sinks at the end. But I guess we just couldn't help going anyway.

Yep, the whole league is fixed and you X-Filers continue to watch. Makes it seems like you have nothing else to do than to watch a rigged league on your free time, right?

Of course all 13 teams aren't IN on the fix...

    None of the teams are...

The NBA is behind it all, not the 10 other teams who don't get in the lotto...

The NBA didn't tell MJ that it was fixed because the next time they rig the draft, and it isn't for MJ, MJ will cry foul...

It's foolish to think that any of the teams, let alone all 13 are in on the fix...

So how exactly does the NBA fix the lottery so that these 13 representatives don't catch on? Are we talking magnets in the good balls or what?

Also who's involved in this fix?

Is it just David Stern sneaking into the vault and marking the lotto balls or is there a 2nd party?

Maybe Rod Thorn was a part of this lottery fixing scheme and Stern had to pay him off by giving him the first pick in the last draft.

Maybe the Rockets should hire Russ Granik or Stu Jackson and see if they can blackmail Stern into hooking us up with Jason Williams in the next draft. Maybe it's not too late, we could hire Stu Jackson now and Stern can change the rules like you said he could earlier and put Jason Williams in the league and Stern can make up some new rule giving Jason Williams to the Rockets.

I think I'm coming onto something, what do you guys think?

Do the 13 reps get to actually see the balls pop up?

If not, then I'm almost certain that they rig it every so often...

Who is "they", and why hasn't a disgruntled member who was involved in the lottery fix contact a newspaper hack like Vescey anonymously yet?
