Allen (Seattle): Hi Dr. Jack, can you please answer this question. I really want to know who will be a better player, Yao or Lebron? I personnally will take Yao over LeBron. I think that in 5 years Yao will average 30/15/3blks while Lebron will be a 30/7/7 kind of guy. Thanks.

Dr. Jack Ramsay: The better player is Bron...the more valuable is Yao...but you wouldn't go wrong with either guy. They are both special...but big guys with Yao's skills and physical equipment are rare. It's like Shaq and Kobe....

I think this is a fair assessment...Lebron is probably more talented, but Yao can really be a dominant force

It depends on who will get more rings in his career? So too early to say.

Great centers win championships unless you are MJ.

Now I fully understand why Marlone led Utah team always lost of Dream's Rockets when Dream was at his prime.

    More from Dr Jack:

Andrew (Austin, TX): Where will the Rockets end up in the playoff stnadings and is there anyone that they could get past in the first round? Who would their ideal match up be?

Dr. Jack Ramsay: The Rockets will probably end up right where they are now...7th in the West. Right now they'd play Minnesota...and I don't see them beating the Wolves. The Rockets will be hard pressed to beat any of the top four seeds this year...but this is only year 1 under VanGundy. Each year will get better and so will Yao!!

So, in Dr. Jack's expert opinion, the Rockets cannot beat Minny.
Sorry Dr. jack, but us fans say they will!

I really don't know who is better, but I don't get this, why one is more valuable, but not a better player?

What's the factors to qualify the "BETTER" player? I guess you can compare each area in the basketball skill department, say ball handling, shooting, passing, defense, decision making, etc. But how can you compare two players when they don't play the same position, or have the different responsibilities on the court.

    Anyone?

This is a little off topic but, Look at this fool

Ken(Los Angeles): Hey Dr. Jack, what do you think about Shaq being ejected lastnight? I thought that it was completely accidental. Everytime the Lakers try to make a run for a victory, the referees always stop the Lakers from winning and I'm tired of it. Shaq gets hit in the head all the time, but the officials don't call anything. Is it just me or are the officials against the Lakers?

Dr. Jack Ramsay: Hitting with an elbow above the shoulders is an automatic ejection. Accidental? I don't know except I've not known Shaq to be a malicious player.
Officials don't "have it in" for any team.

    please lakers are a conspiracy

If the matchup does materialize, it will be as much a pyschological warfare as a battle of skills between a feraless playoff rookie team and a wounded veteran team. We may have a good chance pulling it off.

I assume he meant that there are not many elite centers in the league, whereas there is a surplus of elite guards. That is, the lack of supply makes Yao more "valuable."

I assume better means overall skills and valueable means impact to the game. Lebron sure is more skilled than Yao in terms of dribbling, stealing, make good looking moves and dunks etc. But Yao's impact to the game is bigger. For example, his mere presence in the middle will cause opponents hesitate before shooting, and make their percentage lower.

stupid. what is 'better' player. lebron might be more 'atheletic', but talk about all fundamental skills no way he is better than yao. e.g. what about let them have a free throw contest?

by the way, where Jack got his "Dr" title from?

Is a PG supposed to be good at those skills? Which center is better in terms of those skills than a PG in the league? None?

Rebounding, blocks, assists etc. are skills too. There are so many skills in basketball, to say Kobe has more skills than Yao or Lebron has more skills than Yao is not really that unreasonable. But you can see what Dr. Ramsey really means, he'd prefer Yao because of he's more valuable.
