Au contraire, I believe I am one of the people who can imagine time and space on a scale that renders human existence as a mere fleeting moment on an insiginificant piece of space dust.
They wont be totally human. We will start genetically modifying ourselves to adapt to new environments.

Yea this and what Lynus said. I remember about a month ago, this new co-worker of mine and me were talking about things and he looked at me and said, "Well by December 21, 2012, it's not going to matter because we are all going to be destroyed." I looked at him like he was from outer space and he then told me about this. I went to the Internet! Sure enough, all kinds of things are out there about this date. So, I have a little curiosity about what will really go down on that date.
Oh, I have an interactive graph you will be interested in: http://www.portfolio.com/interactive-features/2008/01/NASA
History channel had an interesting show on last night about this very subject, 7 most likely catastrophic things that could happen to the planet. ranked in order from most likely to least likely to happen 1. Climate change/Global warming 2. Biological warfare/virus 3. A nuclear war started accidentally 4. An asteroid collision (in 2029 there will be one that if it follows it's plotted course which I'm sure could be off at least a few feet either way will pass Earth close enough to come in under our communications satellites, pretty scary stuff) 5. A super-volcano 6. Artificial intelligence 7. Being swallowed by a black hole 8. Hit by gamma rays Tonight the History Channel is running a life after people special which should be cool and show what the planet would become should one of these things happen.

"Dow Jones industrial average futures DJc1> dropped 546 points or 4.5 percent. Should the Dow close lower on Tuesday by the amount the futures suggest, it would rank as the fourth-largest point loss ever for the index." This is happening now.
I have felt that mother nature will some time soon reclaim what is hers. I'm waiting on the human race's limiting factor.
I think about Yellowstone going off quite often. It's due and when/if it does, this country is pretty much gone iirc.
Like I Am Legend (or perhaps The Stand), I fully expect some type of man-made super-virus to wreak havoc on the world.
How can so many independent, unrelated sources (Nostradamus, Mayan Calendar, etc...) predict the same day in 2012 as the apocalypse? What is the logical explanation for this?
